Low Voltage Cable Technician Job Title: Telecommunications Technician

Position SummaryInstalls, terminates, and tests low voltage cabling systems in commercial environments. Works as part of an installation crew to provide the cable infrastructure for security, data, telecommunications, and audio/visual systems.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCable Installation:- Pull and run Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, coax, and fiber optic cable through commercial buildings
- Install cable support systems including J-hooks, cable trays, conduit, and raceways
- Fish cable through walls, ceilings, and floors
- Maintain proper bend radius and cable management standards
- Ensure installations meet TIA/EIA standards and local codes
Termination and Testing:- Terminate Cat5e, Cat6, and coax cables to jacks, patch panels, and connectors
- Punch down cables to 110 blocks and patch panels
- Install and dress network racks and equipment cabinets
- Test all cable runs using appropriate test equipment (cable certifiers, tone generators, multimeters)
- Troubleshoot and repair failed or damaged cable runs
- Document test results and maintain as-built records
Job Site Coordination:- Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, and technical drawings
- Coordinate cable routing with other trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing)
- Label all cable runs according to project specifications
- Maintain organized and safe work areas
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- 6 months+ experience installing low voltage cable in commercial settings
- Working knowledge of Cat5e, Cat6, and coax cable types and applications
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
- Basic understanding of TIA/EIA cabling standards
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience with Fluke or similar cable testing equipment
- Fiber optic termination and testing experience
Physical Requirements- Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment up to 50-75 lbs regularly
- Climb ladders and work from aerial lifts at heights up to 30+ feet
- Work in confined spaces including attics, crawl spaces, and above ceilings
- Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods
- Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions
- Wear personal protective equipment as required
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
