This is a hands-on technical role that combines software engineering, solution design, and incremental application modernization within an established technical leadership structure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, test, and support application enhancements, integrations, and defect corrections while remaining actively involved in production code.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Developer/Architect to translate business requirements into practical technical designs, implementation plans, project estimates, and dependencies.
  • Maintain and enhance existing VB.NET, .NET Framework, and ASP.NET applications while developing new capabilities using C# and modern .NET technologies.
  • Contribute to enterprise application modernization through incremental migration, reusable application patterns, and integration of legacy and modern application components.
  • Develop and review Microsoft SQL Server queries, data access logic, stored procedure changes, and integration data flows in coordination with database owners.
  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot APIs, file transfers, batch and scheduled interfaces, authentication and single sign-on (SSO) integrations, and upstream and downstream application interactions.
  • Create and maintain solution diagrams, interface specifications, technical decision records, implementation notes, and support documentation.
  • Participate in code and design reviews to improve application consistency, error handling, validation, logging, security, maintainability, and performance.
  • Work with quality assurance (QA) and business analysts (BAs) to clarify requirements, establish acceptance criteria, deliver testable solutions, resolve defects, and meet release requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and production issues involving IIS, SQL Server, integrations, and application logic while coordinating with infrastructure and support teams.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Six or more years of progressive, hands-on enterprise software development experience, including application design and complex technical problem-solving.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft .NET, ASP.NET, and Microsoft SQL Server, including the ability to maintain and enhance existing VB.NET and .NET Framework applications.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience developing and maintaining production applications using C# and .NET.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting SQL-backed web applications, APIs, system interfaces, and cross-platform data flows.
  • Practical knowledge of object-oriented design, secure software development, code reviews, testing, diagnostics, and maintainable coding practices.
  • Ability to evaluate technical alternatives, communicate design trade-offs, estimate development efforts, and document technical decisions.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside developers, QA professionals, business analysts, and infrastructure teams.
  • Willingness to remain actively involved in software development while expanding technical architecture responsibilities within an established leadership structure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with modern .NET, Blazor Server, and incremental modernization of legacy enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with application migration strategies that allow legacy and modern systems to coexist, including strangler-pattern approaches.
  • Experience with IIS, Windows Server, SQL Server performance optimization, enterprise authentication and authorization, and on-premises application deployments.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps Server, work-item tracking, source control, and structured development, testing, and production release processes.
  • Exposure to operationally critical system integrations, scheduled processes, and multi-client line-of-business applications.
