Backend Software Developer

Position: Backend Software Developer (W2 role)
Location: Remote / Deerfield, IL
Duration: Fulltime / Long Term Contract With potential extension.

Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Backend Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure backend applications. The ideal candidate will have strong server-side programming skills, experience building APIs, and the ability to work collaboratively with frontend developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning, design, development, testing, and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing systems.
• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and application components using technologies such as Python, C#, Node.js, or similar.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and support API-driven and, where applicable, microservices-based architectures.
• Develop, test, and maintain application modules according to business and technical requirements.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with technical leads, architects, and frontend developers to ensure seamless application integration.
• Support the integration of AI-enabled and data-driven features into applications.
• Apply software design patterns and appropriate programming concepts to improve application performance and scalability.
• Write clean, efficient, secure, and maintainable code in accordance with development standards.
• Participate in code reviews, technical walkthroughs, and design discussions.
• Assist with application deployments, CI/CD activities, and ongoing improvements to development workflows.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and production issues in a timely manner.
• Provide maintenance and enhancements for existing applications while minimizing disruption to business operations.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and application maintainability.
• Work in an Agile/Scrum environment and collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 2 4 years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Python, C#, Node.js, or a similar technology.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs, API design, and application integration patterns.
• Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and API-driven architecture concepts.
• Familiarity with software testing, version control, code quality, and secure development practices.
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud-native services.
• Basic familiarity with Docker or other containerization technologies.
• Foundational understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience working in or exposure to Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with messaging systems and event-driven architecture, such as Kafka or Azure Service Bus.
• Interest in or exposure to AI/ML integration, including the use of AI services or APIs.
• Exposure to data platforms and integration patterns.
• Familiarity with UML, technical diagrams, and documentation practices.
• Willingness to learn legacy technologies used by KORE, such as Smalltalk.
