Summary

Department: IT Cyber Platform Services
Salary/Grade: ITS/83

: Target hiring range for this position will be between $125,220-$145,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data

Job Summary

Leads a team of database administrators. Coordinates the activities of the team. Provides guidance and instruction to the team. Develops, evaluates, and oversees team processes and ensures that they are documented. Ensures that the team meets business goals and objectives.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Recommends purchases and capital equipment. Advises users on direction of systems, operations, staff allocation, budgets, and scalability.
Administration
  • Manages and coordinate IT initiatives and projects across organization units.
  • Partners closely with Architecture, Development and Security group on IT operations.
  • Manages technical relationships with users utilizing technical and business knowledge.
  • Reviews work processes and implements enhancements.
  • Develops and maintains policies and standard procedures to increase system reliability.
  • Partners with analytical and data management teams to develop analytical tools to manage/measure information and data.
  • Trains developers on the use of DBMS productivity tools and software, including techniques on writing efficient SQL
  • Recommends timing to move objects into production, i.e., coordinating moves of tables and program code to all database instances and comparing schemas between databases to ensure synchronization between development and production.
  • Leads support of production database systems.
Development
  • Designs, develops, implements, tunes, and documents enterprise class logical data models and physical database objects.
Performance
  • Oversees and ensures monitoring of database capacity and prepares estimates on database growth.
  • Ensures optimum database performance.
  • Partners with internal/external IT staff regarding database related issues and problem resolution.
  • Ensures design reviews are completed for all new infrastructure and improvements to existing systems.
  • Reviews user goals and objectives; analyzes technical requirements and issues and partners with internal/external IT staff to plan for, create and provide solutions.
  • Oversees maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design.
  • Oversees efforts to troubleshoot system errors and inconsistencies.
Supervises
  • Coordinates activities of database team.
  • Recommends staff hires/terminations.
  • Manages projects ensuring timelines and deliverables are met and meet expectations.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 6 years database administration or other relevant experience required.
