Data Modeler Location: California
We are looking for an experienced Data Modeler based in California to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong data warehousing expertise and hands-on experience leveraging AI tools to build and maintain data dictionaries from SQL Server databases.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support enterprise data warehousing and analytics initiatives. Leverage AI tools and automation to create, manage, and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries from existing SQL Server databases. Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts to understand data requirements and translate them into robust data models. Define and enforce data standards, naming conventions, and modeling best practices across the organization. Support data governance initiatives by documenting data lineage, metadata, and business definitions. Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and maintainability within the data warehouse environment. Work closely with ETL/ELT teams to ensure data models align with pipeline design and data flow. Participate in data quality and validation efforts to ensure accuracy and consistency across data assets.
Required Skills & Experience
7+ years of experience in data modeling with a strong focus on data warehouse design. Hands-on experience with SQL Server, including schema design, query optimization, and database analysis. Experience using AI tools or automation to generate and maintain data dictionaries from existing databases. Proficiency in data modeling tools such as Erwin, ER/Studio, or similar. Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts including Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and Data Vault 2.0. Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline design. Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data lineage documentation. Strong SQL skills for data analysis, profiling, and validation. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform. Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau. Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare or financial services. Knowledge of dimensional modeling and OLAP concepts. Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, or other cloud data warehouse platforms.
Location Requirement
Candidates must be based in California. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered for qualified local candidates.
