Avionics Software & Systems Engineering Supervisor (556 SWES / MXDPB)

Lead and inspire an elite engineering team developing critical Test Program Sets (TPS) and avionics repair capabilities across the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) enterprise. As a 1st-level supervisor, you will direct the design, diagnostic testing, and systems administration necessary to keep frontline aircraft avionics fully combat-ready.

What you will accomplish:

- Mission-Critical Avionics Impact: Drive the engineering solutions that establish directorate-level repair capabilities for advanced Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and Shop Replaceable Units (SRUs).

- Empowering Leadership Role: Mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing technical team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical mastery.

- Enterprise-Wide Influence: Collaborate across the AFSC enterprise to steer acquisitions for Automated Test Equipment (ATE), software development tools, and next-generation processes.

- Team Leadership & Position Management: Exercise direct supervisory authority over engineers and technical staff, planning daily workflows, setting performance goals, and supporting professional growth.

- TPS Design & Sustainment: Direct the design, development, re-hosting, and modification of complex TPS software used for functional and diagnostic testing of avionics components.

- Infrastructure & Systems Administration: Oversee the administration of servers, workstations, user accounts, system certifications, and multi-OS environments across the Directorate, Main Operating Bases (MOBs), and contractor networks.

- Quality Assurance & Validation and Verification (V&V): Champion the gated TPS development lifecycle, providing rigorous V&V, configuration management, and customer acceptance testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.

- Subject to recall during non-duty hours, weekends, and holidays to complete proposals and/or resolve software problems

- Designated as a Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP)

- Required to travel on military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty if needed

-Obtain & maintain an appropriate Cyberspace certifications

- Drug testing designated position

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Professional knowledge of electronics engineering and/or computer science concepts, theories, principles, and practices and working knowledge of other disciplines, such as aerospace, industrial, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering; of a broad range of engineering standards, precedents, methods, and techniques to ensure work in compliance with regulations and standards; and the applicability of such knowledge to the full range of duties concerned with design, production, and maintenance of Operational Flight Programs, Automated Test Systems, Test Program Set Software, and other systems used to support the warfighter and weapons systems program offices.

2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures.

4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.

5. Knowledge of budgeting, procurement, standard configuration and finding regulations, practices and processes related to system acquisition and sustainment management functions.
