Employment Type: Direct Hire

Overview
Ledgent Technology is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a growing infrastructure team in San Diego. This is a senior-level engineering role focused on network architecture, design, implementation, and modernization initiatives, rather than day-to-day operational support.
We're looking for someone who has successfully designed and deployed enterprise network solutions and can contribute at a strategic level. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and datacenter networking, with the ability to develop and implement scalable solutions that support business growth.
This role is best suited for an engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, leading technical initiatives, and influencing the future direction of an enterprise network environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, LAN, WAN, VPN, and datacenter technologies.
- Architect secure, scalable, and high-performing network solutions to meet evolving business needs.
- Lead network deployments, upgrades, and infrastructure enhancement projects.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies to improve network performance, reliability, and security.
- Manage and maintain enterprise firewall environments and network security platforms.
- Execute network changes in accordance with established security and change management practices.
- Conduct network performance analysis, capacity planning, and infrastructure optimization.
- Lead vulnerability remediation efforts and support security initiatives across the network environment.
- Provide Tier III support and technical leadership for complex network-related issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders on infrastructure projects and solution implementations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Research automation opportunities and process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience supporting and engineering enterprise network environments.
- Strong experience designing and implementing network solutions, not solely supporting existing environments.
- Deep expertise in routing, switching, network protocols, and network security.
- Experience with enterprise network operating systems such as Cisco NX-OS, JunOS, Arista EOS, or similar platforms.
- Experience deploying and administering enterprise firewall solutions such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, or comparable technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within complex network environments.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working within structured change management and operational processes.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cisco networking technologies and enterprise infrastructure solutions.
- Familiarity with Check Point firewall environments.
- Working knowledge of VMware, Windows Server, or Linux administration.
- Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Ansible, Python, or Bash.
- CCNP, JNCIS, or similar networking certifications are a plus but not required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an engineer who has led network design and deployment initiatives and can speak confidently about architecture decisions, implementation strategies, firewall deployments, infrastructure upgrades, and modernization projects. This person understands the big picture, can translate business requirements into technical solutions, and enjoys building and improving environments rather than simply maintaining them.
Candidates from any industry are encouraged to apply. While certifications are valued, proven hands-on engineering and implementation experience are the primary considerations for success in this role.
Additional Information
- Hybrid work schedule following the initial onsite onboarding period.
- No formal on-call rotation.
- Dedicated 24/7 NOC team provides ongoing monitoring and first-line support.
- Engineers may be asked to assist during major outages or critical incidents.
- Opportunity to work on complex, enterprise-scale networking and security initiatives.
