As a Perception Engineer III , you are responsible for leading the design and development of advanced perception algorithms and sensor integration solutions that drive the performance of clients advanced robotics platforms. You operate with a high degree of autonomy, own complex technical processes, and actively mentor junior engineers on the Perception team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of perception algorithms for LiDAR, radar, camera, and sensor fusion applications across clients advanced robotics platforms
- Architect real-time C++ processing pipelines for object detection, classification, tracking, and sensor fusion in embedded environments.
- Define sensor selection criteria, integration standards, and validation processes for new and existing perception systems.
- Drive resolution of complex or non-standard perception failures through root cause analysis and algorithm refinement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with planning, controls, and systems engineers to align perception outputs with broader autonomy architecture.
- Deploy and configure perception systems at customer sites, providing technical leadership during integration.
- Mentor Perception Engineers I and II, conducting code reviews and providing technical guidance.
- Document system architecture, algorithm design decisions, and lessons learned to build team knowledge.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 4–7 years of experience developing perception systems for for advanced robotics, industrial automation, or intelligent vehicle platforms
- Expert proficiency in C++ (C++11 or newer) with demonstrated experience building production-grade, multithreaded Linux applications.
- Proven experience with at least two of the following: LiDAR point cloud processing, automotive radar processing, image processing for object recognition, or sensor fusion and object tracking.
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS or ROS2) and DDS or publish-subscribe messaging architectures.
- Strong understanding of machine learning and AI techniques deployed in embedded C++ environments.
- Proficiency in Python3 or MATLAB for prototyping and analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of linear algebra, probabilistic estimation, and coordinate transformations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation constantly throughout the workday.
- Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Ability to effectively complete job responsibilities on computer monitors.
- Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information in person, via phone, and through other electronic means.
- Able to traverse an office environment.
