Role: Automation Test Lead
Location: NYC Metro Area; mostly remote, with 1 week onsite required every 2 months
Duration: Contract

Position Summary
The Automated Test Lead is responsible for leading test automation strategy and execution across a portfolio of enterprise applications. This role will establish automation standards, improve release quality, reduce regression effort, and integrate testing into delivery pipelines. The position works closely with development, DevOps, project management, and business stakeholders to ensure quality is built into the software delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Lead automated testing strategy, planning, and execution across multiple applications and teams
Design and maintain automation frameworks for UI, API, integration, regression, and smoke testing
Establish automation standards, reusable test assets, and quality gates
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD and deployment workflows
Oversee test planning, test case design, test data, execution, and defect coordination
Track and report key quality metrics including coverage, execution results, defect trends, and release readiness
Mentor QA and test engineers on automation tools, frameworks, and best practices
Identify quality risks, dependencies, and gaps that may impact delivery
Promote shift-left testing practices across the SDLC

Required Qualifications

Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
7+ years of software testing and quality assurance experience
3+ years in a lead or senior automation testing role
Experience building and leading automated testing solutions for enterprise applications
Strong experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar. Experience with Playwright is a plus.
Proven experience with JMeter
Strong experience with API testing tools such as Postman, RestAssured, SoapUI, or similar
Experience with programming languages such as C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, with experience supporting applications built on .NET and React
Experience with SQL Server and knowledge of SQL.
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD and deployment workflows using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Ansible, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, test strategy, defect management, and release processes
Experience with test management and work tracking tools such as Azure DevOps or equivalent platforms
Strong communication skills and ability to lead across technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in complex enterprise or mission-critical environments
Experience with performance, load, or security testing
Experience with database validation and backend/service integration testing
Experience in hybrid Agile/Waterfall delivery environments
Exposure to Azure environments
Experience in regulated or highly governed environments
ISTQB or similar testing certification preferred

Improved release readiness and lower production defect leakage
Standardized automation practices across teams
Better visibility into quality metrics and test.
