This is a Full-Time (W2) position in Belen, NM supporting a Water Utility/Water Treatment & Distribution Company. Full benefits, PTO, and paid holidays is inclusive to this position.

Salary Target: $85K-$110K/YR (Salary can be flexible based on the relevant years of professional experience and background related to the position)

 

Requirements: ship or Work Status Authorization; Completed Bachelor’s Degree; 5+ years of relevant professional experience including cost accounting, project/construction accounting, general ledger, corporate budgeting/finance, and/or corporate accounting

 

Job Description

 

The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting functions within Company’s New Mexico State footprint. The Accounting Manager coordinates and manages Company’s monthly and annual financial reporting efforts with Corporate Teams, Customer Support Services (CSS) Teams, leads the preparation of the annual revenue forecasts and related operational expense budgets, analyzes Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) for capitalization of assets, interfaces with CSS regarding various internal and audit requirements, and assists in the preparation of rate case filings. This position is located in Belen, New Mexico.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Manages staff, including coordinating Accounting Team tasks and projects, conducting performance evaluations, overseeing training, and development.
  • Coordinates financial reporting activities including the development of the monthly financial scorecard with the General Manager and CSS to meet month end cut off dates;
    Reviews and approves most monthly General Ledger journal entries related financial reporting.
  • Approves vendor invoices as appropriate to do so and the release of approved voucher payments.
  • Develops and analyzes monthly financial reports/the monthly scorecard for accuracy in reporting and provides explanations of variances between current year and, prior and budget amounts as applicable.
  • Coordinates & facilitates auditor PBC requests (Provided by Client) in the quarterly close process Interfaces with Customer Support Services (CSS) regarding various internal and external audit requirements.
  • Reviews and certifies balance sheet reconciliations using Blackline reconciliation software.
  • Analyzes and provides support to CSS in developing, monitoring, and assigning the correct Construction Overhead rate for Construction Work In Process used in estimating and budgeting purposes.
  • Leads the Company’s management team and works closely with the Treasury team as to the development and administration of the annual Company operating revenue and expense budgets. Supports engineering as needed in development of the annual capital and spend budgets, respectively.
  • Analyzes Construction work in progress (CWIP) as prepared and summarize by the accounting team for company investment, cash flow and capitalization of asset purposes.
  • Provides extensive support to the operations, engineering, and accounting team as to what encompasses the costs of doing business. Evaluates AP spend on an ongoing basis.
  • Works closely with the Accounts Payable, Procurement, Operations and Accounting teams, respectively, to assure that the proper amounts of Washington State business & occupation and, state and local sales/use are reported and paid.
  • Provides General Manager with a p-card flash report on a weekly basis with a brief narrative calling attention to unreconciled and out of policy purchases made by p-card holders.
  • Supports the CSS rates team with New Mexico State rate case endeavors; Primary point of contact for CSS as to coordinating and gathering details to support rate case activities.
  • Monitors cash flow and coordinates with General Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Expertise with job cost like cost accounting principles a plus:
    • CPA is desirable.
    • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting with three consecutive years in general ledger.
  • Advanced skillset with Microsoft Excel; Proficient with use of Microsoft Teams and Word.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in a management role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Availability to work in an office environment on a full-time basis.
  • Valid Driver License.
