Data Center Technician

Overview

TEKsystems is partnering with Microsoft to hire a Data Center Technician (DCT) to support operations at a large hyperscale data center in Cheyenne, WY. This is a great opportunity to join a world-class technical environment, gain hands-on experience, and grow within a leading organization.

What You'll Be Doing

• Prepare, stage, install, and decommission data center hardware (racks, servers, drives, switches)
• Perform rack & stack activities and structured cabling (fiber and copper)
• Conduct hardware diagnostics, troubleshooting, and component replacements
• Execute system startups, shutdowns, and refreshes (OS rebuilds, memory upgrades, etc.)
• Perform quality checks on installations (cabling, grounding, labeling, staging)
• Follow standard operating procedures, checklists, and safety protocols
• Escalate issues and communicate status updates to Data Center leads

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 1+ year of experience in:
  • Data center operations OR
  • IT hardware support OR
  • Structured cabling / low voltage installation
• Basic understanding of:
  • Servers and hardware components
  • Networking equipment
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Ability to work in a physical, hands-on environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:
  • Rack & stack
  • Structured cabling (Cat6 / fiber)
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Decommissioning equipment
• Prior experience in Microsoft data centers (highly preferred)
• Wyoming Low Voltage License (or ability to obtain quickly)

? Schedule & Environment

• Must be flexible to work:
  • Day or night shifts
  • Weekdays or weekends
• 100% onsite in a secure data center environment
• Physical role requiring:
  • Standing, lifting, and working in racks
  • PPE (composite toe boots required)

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
