Information Technology (IT) Specialist (System Administrator): Power the Foundation of Warfighter Innovation!

Are you a System Administrator who wants your technical skills to directly support the front lines? The Software Directorate Support Branch (AFSC/SWXY) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist (Systems Administration) to build, secure, and optimize our development infrastructure.

In this vital role, you will be the backbone of our operation. Your work provides the critical foundation required to deliver both experimental and operational software-based systems to the field, directly ensuring that our warfighters remain equipped, resilient, and ready for any mission.

As a core System Administrator within the Support Branch, your daily focus will be on engineering and maintaining a high-performance, secure IT environment. You will:

- Establish the Operational Foundation: Engineer, deploy, and sustain the critical systems, servers, and infrastructure needed to deliver cutting-edge software-based systems to the warfighter.

- Support Experimental Software Delivery: Build and maintain the agile, secure environments required for rapid prototyping and testing of experimental software, helping our developers safely push the boundaries of defense technology.

- Optimize System Performance: Proactively monitor, tune, and troubleshoot systems to ensure maximum uptime, rapid response times, and peak reliability for our engineering teams.

- Enforce Robust Cyber Defense: Implement and maintain rigorous security controls and systems administration protocols, safeguarding our critical development networks from unauthorized access and vulnerability.

- Empower Software Engineers: Eliminate technical bottlenecks and streamline development environments, allowing our developers to focus on writing the war-winning code that keeps our nation secure.

Qualifications:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain appropriate Security clearance

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft

- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours

- Must be able to obtain and maintain Cyberspace qualification in accordance with DoDM 8140.03

- Designated Drug Testing Position

Recruitment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.

2. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.

3. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.

4. Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.

5. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
