Job Summary

The Systems Administrator supports the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of research and administrative technology environments. The position administers applications, servers, cloud services, identity and access controls, data storage, backups, and related infrastructure to help ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and available.

This position works with university departments, central IT teams, and external vendors to implement technology solutions, resolve complex technical issues, and coordinate system upgrades, integrations, and migrations. The Systems Administrator exercises independent judgment, manages multiple concurrent priorities, provides day-to-day supervision and technical leadership to assigned staff, and serves as an escalation resource for application and infrastructure support.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science or related field. Minimum of 10 years experience in IT.

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with enterprise applications and cloud services; identity and access management, scripting, automation, and integrations; research, higher education, or other compliance-sensitive environments; staff supervision; technical documentation; and relevant certifications.

Preferred Experience:

• Serve as a technical service owner for assigned systems and support operational continuity through documented procedures, cross-training, risk identification, and coordinated escalation.

Other Qualifications

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, monitor, and maintain applications, servers, cloud services, storage, and related technology infrastructure.
• Manage user access, permissions, authentication, and system integrations, including single sign-on and other identity-management functions.
• Coordinate and perform application installations, upgrades, patches, configuration changes, migrations, and system lifecycle activities.
• Monitor system availability, performance, capacity, and security; investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
• Maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes and assist with testing system restoration capabilities.
• Support secure data storage, transfer, migration, validation, and reconciliation activities.
• Develop scripts, automation, and technical solutions that improve system administration, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with customers, vendors, and university technology teams while maintaining system documentation, procedures, configuration records, and
  implementation handoffs.
• Provide day-to-day supervision and technical leadership to assigned staff, including coordinating work, establishing priorities, providing guidance and
  mentoring, and reviewing work for quality and completeness.

Remote Work Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
