Communications Specialist

Job Overview:
Communications Specialist to support statewide maternal health initiatives. This role involves content development, graphic design support, strategic communications, public health messaging, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development & Communications

  • Develop and manage content across websites, newsletters, social media, print materials, and reports
  • Translate complex public health topics into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences
  • Create culturally relevant communication materials with internal teams and community partners
  • Ensure documents meet ADA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Section 508 accessibility standards
  • Produce monthly newsletters using My Emma and track engagement metrics
  • Prepare quarterly communications performance reports

Community Engagement

  • Support communication planning for maternal health initiatives and partner organizations
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to statewide awareness campaigns and community education projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent portfolio experience)
  • 2–5 years of communications experience (public health, nonprofit, or government preferred)
  • Experience with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, and Excel
  • Experience with My Emma or similar email marketing platforms
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Knowledge of cultural competency in health communications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a remote/hybrid environment
  • Must currently reside in Tennessee
