Communications Specialist

Job Overview:
Communications Specialist to support statewide maternal health initiatives. This role involves content development, graphic design support, strategic communications, public health messaging, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development & Communications

Develop and manage content across websites, newsletters, social media, print materials, and reports
Translate complex public health topics into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences
Create culturally relevant communication materials with internal teams and community partners
Ensure documents meet ADA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Section 508 accessibility standards
Produce monthly newsletters using My Emma and track engagement metrics
Prepare quarterly communications performance reports

Community Engagement

Support communication planning for maternal health initiatives and partner organizations
Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Contribute to statewide awareness campaigns and community education projects

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent portfolio experience)
2–5 years of communications experience (public health, nonprofit, or government preferred)
Experience with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, and Excel
Experience with My Emma or similar email marketing platforms
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
Knowledge of cultural competency in health communications
Ability to manage multiple projects in a remote/hybrid environment
Must currently reside in Tennessee
