Job Title: Senior Smart Grid Infrastructure Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, technically proficient Senior Smart Grid Infrastructure Engineer to lead the validation, testing, and operational deployment of next-generation utility metering technologies. This is a high-level engineering role that requires a blend of rigorous laboratory testing, cross-functional vendor management, and practical field-readiness support.
You will act as the technical subject matter expert, ensuring that complex grid-edge technologies are interoperable, secure, and ready for wide-scale deployment. If you are an engineer who thrives on solving difficult technical problems, adapting standard testing procedures to unique operational challenges, and bridging the gap between vendor specs and field-technician reality, this role offers the opportunity to drive a critical grid-modernization initiative.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Validation & Engineering Excellence
Solution Validation: Lead the end-to-end validation of smart-metering hardware and software functionalities. Perform intensive engineering analysis to ensure systems meet strict technical specifications.
Lab-to-Field Testing: Conduct rigorous functionality and hardware specification testing in laboratory environments. Support the integration and system-wide testing of metering solutions with broader grid management applications.
Problem Solving: Successfully resolve complex technical hurdles that require the adaptation and modification of standard procedures. Devise new, creative engineering approaches to resolve unforeseen integration or interoperability issues.
Vendor Management & Field Deployment
Vendor Collaboration: Act as the technical point of contact for metering vendors, providing critical feedback on solution development and identifying requirements for system enhancements.
Field Readiness: Support pilot programs and foundational use cases. Create clear, concise procedures and job aids for field technicians and operations teams.
Change Management: Coordinate with internal stakeholders during pre-deployment phases to ensure technical feasibility, quality assurance, and organizational readiness.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Technical Communication: Serve as a bridge between technical engineering, operations, and external vendors. Present complex technical findings to leadership and translate engineering requirements into actionable field tasks.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and assess trends in system performance; recommend corrective actions to improve quality, reliability, and productivity.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
Experience Baseline: Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, with at least five (5) years specifically in metering systems, smart grid technologies, or related grid-edge infrastructure.
Technical Mastery:
oDeep understanding of AMI systems, interoperability standards, and formal testing methodologies.
oHands-on experience working in laboratory environments and leading cross-functional technical teams.
oFamiliarity with wireless communication protocols and IT/Network system integration.
Analytical Capability: Proven ability to apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles to broad, complex assignments.
Preferred Attributes
Direct experience with utility-scale field deployment and providing technical support to field technicians.
Strong familiarity with utility-specific operational workflows and stakeholder coordination.
