Job Title: Biomedical Engineer
Location: Dayton, Ohio

Who You Are:

You are an engineer who still wants to engineer.

You can lead other engineers, establish technical standards, review work, mentor developing personnel, and coordinate laboratory capability, but you do not want your entire job to become meetings and spreadsheets.

You still want to see the systems, equipment and aircraft.

You want to understand the interface, inspect the data, understand why the fixture was designed a certain way, and help solve the problem when the laboratory needs something that does not yet exist.

You are comfortable working across biomechanics, engineering design, anthropometry, aircraft accommodation, data collection, statistics, 3D scanning, instrumentation, Digital Human Modeling, and technical reporting.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the laboratory's senior engineering authority.
  • Lead engineering activity across laboratory programs and projects.
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical-quality expectations.
  • Coordinate engineering resources, personnel, laboratory equipment, and priorities.
  • Lead engineering integration for aircraft accommodation and multidisciplinary human-systems evaluations.
  • Mentor Engineer personnel and developing engineers.
  • Review and validate engineering analyses, designs, and technical products.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions supporting Human Systems Integration, Human Factors Engineering, developmental engineering, and aircraft accommodation.
  • Participate directly in aircraft and laboratory evaluations.
  • Support anthropometric assessments, data collection, and human-system analysis.
  • Guide CAD, test-device, prototype, instrumentation, laboratory-engineering, and fabrication activities.
  • Support Digital Human Modeling, simulation, and engineering validation where applicable.
  • Identify technical risks and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Support development and modernization of laboratory engineering capability.
  • Contribute directly to technical reports, engineering recommendations, customer briefings, and proposals.
  • Maintain engineering quality, configuration control, technical traceability, and repeatability.

Minimum Qualifications/What You'll Bring:
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible experience leading engineering activities and multidisciplinary technical efforts.
  • Strong background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanics, Human Systems Integration, Human Factors Engineering, developmental engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with technical data collection and engineering analysis.
  • Experience reviewing engineering products and mentoring developing engineers.
  • Strong technical writing and customer-communication skills.
  • Ability to translate scientific objectives and customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively across scientific, engineering, operational, and acquisition communities.

Nice to Haves:
  • 5+ years supporting aircraft accommodation, human systems, biomechanics, or comparable laboratory research.
  • Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering background.
  • 3D scanning and metrology experience.
  • Statistical-analysis experience.
  • Digital Human Modeling experience.
  • CAD, instrumentation, and prototype-development experience.
  • Department of Defense or Department of the Air Force research, engineering, or acquisition experience.
  • Published or presented technical research.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or comparable technical recognition.

Education/Credentials:
  • Master's degree in math, physics, engineering, or related STEM discipline
  • ship is required for consideration, as this job requires a US government security clearance.
    • Acceptable - Secret level clearance

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and work on a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
