Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer in Plano, TX.

Overview:
Our client is seeking a mid-career Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of mission-critical radar and defense systems. This role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining embedded real-time software within complex, hardware-centric environments where reliability, performance, and determinism are essential.

Duties Include:
* Architect, design, implement, test, and debug embedded real-time software
* Develop software on VxWorks, Linux, and other RTOS platforms
* Design and implement interfaces between software, firmware, and real-time hardware controllers
* Support radar and defense systems requiring high availability and deterministic performance
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, systems, test)
* Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices

REQUIREMENTS:
Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (or equivalent experience)
* 5-10 years of embedded or real-time software development experience
* Strong proficiency in C++ (or closely related languages)
* Experience integrating hardware, firmware, and software
* Development experience on VxWorks, Linux, or other RTOS
* Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience supporting radar, defense, or aerospace systems
* Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments
* Exposure to DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD, and automated testing
* Ability to quickly navigate large, complex codebases

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
