About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Machine Administrator (DMA) to join our technology consulting team. In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for the end-to-end management, performance, and reliability of our on-premises Oracle Exadata Engineered Systems and Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) environment.
Unlike a traditional Oracle DBA, the DMA focuses on the intersection of hardware, networking, and database software to ensure mission-critical Exadata infrastructure operates at peak performance while maintaining enterprise-grade data protection and recoverability.
Key Responsibilities
Oracle Exadata Administration
- Administer, configure, maintain, and support Oracle Exadata Database Machines.
- Manage database servers, storage cells, and internal network fabrics (RoCE/InfiniBand).
- Perform routine health checks and proactive maintenance.
Patching & Upgrades
- Plan and execute patching for the complete Exadata stack, including:
- Grid Infrastructure (GI)
- Oracle RDBMS
- CellOS
- Firmware
- Network Switches
ZDLRA Administration
- Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, and replication strategies using Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA).
- Ensure continuous data protection and compliance with RTO/RPO objectives.
- Configure and manage real-time redo transport and backup policies.
Performance Tuning & Monitoring
- Optimize Exadata performance using:
- Smart Scan
- Storage Indexes
- Flash Cache
- Exadata Resource Manager (IORM)
- Monitor system health using:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- CellCLI
- DCLI
- ExaChk
Capacity Planning
- Analyze storage and compute utilization.
- Forecast future capacity requirements.
- Recommend hardware and software scaling strategies.
Incident Management & Troubleshooting
- Serve as the highest escalation point for complex Exadata and ZDLRA hardware/software issues.
- Work directly with Oracle Support for critical Service Requests (SRs) and hardware replacements.
Collaboration
- Partner with application DBAs, system administrators, network engineers, and client stakeholders.
- Support highly available Oracle environments utilizing RAC and Data Guard.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of overall IT experience.
- 8+ years of Oracle DBA experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Exadata administration.
- Strong experience administering Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA).
- Expertise with Oracle Database 19c (or later versions).
- Strong knowledge of:
- Oracle RAC
- Oracle ASM
- Oracle Data Guard
- In-depth understanding of:
- Exadata Storage Cell Architecture
- Smart Scan Technology
- Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC)
- Exadata Resource Manager (IORM)
- Strong Linux administration skills (Oracle Linux/Red Hat).
- Proficiency in Bash and Python scripting for automation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oracle Exadata Database Machine Certified Implementation Specialist.
- Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional (OCP).
- Experience migrating workloads to Oracle Exadata.
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) / Exadata Cloud (ExaDB-D).
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools such as:
