Location: Foster City, California (Onsite)
Role Overview
As a Fleet Support Engineer, you will be critical to ensuring the operational uptime and reliability of a cutting-edge fleet, with a specific focus on powertrain systems. This role requires a technical expert who excels at collaborating with cross-functional teams, meticulously documenting troubleshooting processes, and providing immediate, impactful support for daily fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for real-time escalations regarding powertrain and vehicle dynamics issues.
- Conduct in-depth root cause analysis to implement both interim and permanent corrective actions.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to powertrain performance, energy consumption, and charging.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive troubleshooting guides for powertrain components to empower field technicians and drive knowledge sharing.
- Validate and perform component and vehicle bring-up/functional verification procedures, with a focus on powertrain systems.
- Tune and validate powertrain control parameters to optimize performance and efficiency.
- Analyze large datasets to proactively identify systematic issues and recommend preventative actions.
- Be available for night and weekend shifts as needed, with advanced notice provided.
- Be willing to travel occasionally to support various operational locations.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering is required.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in transportation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles, with a focus on powertrain, energy storage, or charging systems is necessary.
Technical Skills: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to safely troubleshoot low voltage and high voltage systems. Hands-on experience with powertrain systems, including electric motors, inverters, and battery management systems, is required. Proficiency with interpreting electrical schematics, harness diagrams, and state machine diagrams is also needed. Additional required skills include a deep understanding of electric vehicle (EV) technology, proficiency in vehicle dynamics and control systems, and experience with debugging Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) issues. A proactive, holistic problem-solving approach is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with powertrain simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ADAMS).
- Familiarity with CAN bus messaging specific to powertrain and charging systems.
- Knowledge of automotive systems and diagnostics tools.
- Experience with remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting.
- Experience with Linux & Python-based programming systems for fleet-level data processing.
- Experience with GPS/RTS debugging.
