Englewood, CO

Hybrid (4 days onsite / 1 day remote)

$40-$45/hour W2 (Long-term contract)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join a Fortune 500 telecom client as a Systems Engineer III within the Enterprise Applications & Systems Engineering team, supporting a large-scale enterprise lab environment. This hands-on, generalist position is ideal for an engineer with strong Linux systems administration, practical DNS/IPAM experience, and automation/scripting skills. The team manages 14 third-party enterprise applications-including IPAM/DNS, monitoring, and traffic-generation platforms-serving over 60 teams and 800+ users. You'll split your time between project work and application support, with a strong emphasis on ownership, urgency, and proactive communication. You'll collaborate closely with a small, high-performing team, cross-functional partners, and third-party vendors to ensure the reliability, security, and documentation of critical lab infrastructure.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Administer and maintain Linux environments and services supporting enterprise applications
  • Support and troubleshoot DNS and IPAM-related services to ensure reliable operations
  • Develop, write, and improve automation scripts for operational and bulk tasks (preferably in Python, but Bash, PowerShell, or other scripting languages are welcome)
  • Troubleshoot user access issues, failed automation, application problems, and infrastructure incidents
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to enable features, resolve issues, and support application lifecycle needs
  • Own assigned projects and deadlines, proactively follow up on dependencies, and communicate status without waiting for direction
  • Document procedures, runbooks, configurations, and operational processes
  • Follow security and access-control practices, including RBAC, while collaborating across teams
  • Work cross-functionally with systems, network engineering, application teams, and lab partners
  • Contribute to a reliable, secure, and well-documented large-scale lab environment
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3+ years of hands-on systems administration or systems engineering experience, with strong Linux administration skills
  • Working, hands-on knowledge of DNS and experience troubleshooting DNS-related issues
  • Automation/scripting experience (Python preferred; Bash, PowerShell, or other relevant scripting languages considered)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across systems and applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, take ownership of work, and communicate proactively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Experience leading projects or owning technical deliverables with tight deadlines (preferred)
  • Experience supporting third-party enterprise applications and working directly with vendors (preferred)
  • Experience in a large corporate, lab, data-center, or enterprise infrastructure environment (preferred)
  • Exposure to tools/platforms such as Infoblox, NetBox, PowerDNS, Zabbix, Grafana, Jira, Git, or CI/CD concepts (preferred)
  • API-based automation or integration experience (preferred)
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
  • Opportunity to work in a collaborative, high-impact team supporting critical enterprise infrastructure
  • Long-term W2 contract with potential for renewal
  • Competitive medical, dental, vision, HSA, and supplemental coverage options
  • 401(k) plan with company match and full vesting after eligibility
  • Paid time off, sick time, and company holidays (subject to eligibility)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with virtual counseling, financial/legal services, life coaching, and more
  • Engage in meaningful, hands-on work with opportunities for ownership and professional growth
INTERVIEW PROCESS
  • Round 1: 15-minute video interview with the hiring manager (team overview, candidate background, Q&A)
  • Round 2: 1-hour onsite technical conversation with two engineers (focus on Linux, DNS, scripting/automation, troubleshooting, and project ownership)
  • No live coding exercise
