Azure Systems Architect

Location: Remote occasional onsite work with advance notice (candidates must be in Southern California)

Contract: Approximately 4 months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Azure Systems Architect to help modernize and replace legacy applications with cloud-native solutions built on Microsoft Azure. This position will work directly with technical teams and business users to design, build, and deliver scalable Azure solutions.

The role will also support the migration of existing on-premises applications and workloads to Azure. The environment includes Azure cloud services, AI services, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and modern .NET/Python development.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, and maintain modern Microsoft Azure architectures.

Develop cloud solutions involving data capture, storage, AI enrichment, search, and application portals.

Modernize and migrate legacy on-premises applications and workloads to Azure.

Build and support solutions using Azure Blob Storage, Azure AI Search, and Azure Document Intelligence.

Develop and support event-driven processing pipelines.

Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.

Implement automated testing and repeatable deployment processes across environments.

Work with cloud architecture teams to align solutions with networking, identity, security, and platform standards.

Partner with development and operations teams to improve system reliability, scalability, performance, and security.

Develop Azure infrastructure using Bicep and/or Terraform.

Define Azure reference architectures for common application and infrastructure solutions.

Evaluate technical requirements and provide input on the modernization product backlog.

Work directly with end users and business teams in a forward-deployed engineering capacity.

Document technical processes and perform periodic system reviews.

Provide project status updates and identify risks or delivery concerns.

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of software development experience using C# and Python.

5+ years of experience managing IT systems and architectures.

Experience as a Systems Architect, Solutions Architect, or forward-deployed engineer.

Strong experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.

Experience with Azure AI services.

Strong knowledge of .NET/.NET Core architecture.

Experience with Azure services including:

Azure App Services

Azure Functions

AKS and/or Azure Container Apps

Azure SQL

Azure Blob Storage

Azure AI Search

Experience with Docker and containerized applications.

Experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.

Experience developing and supporting CI/CD pipelines.

Experience with Git.

Experience with Agile software development.

3+ years of project management and leadership experience.

Knowledge of cloud and application security principles.

Ability to work directly with business users and technical teams.

Preferred Experience

Azure Document Intelligence.

Infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform.

Experience migrating legacy/on-premises applications to Azure.

Experience designing event-driven architectures.

Experience developing Azure reference architectures.

Azure certifications such as:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
