DevOps Engineer (Bazel)

Job Title: Devops Bazel Engineer

Location: Mountain View, CA (Onsite)

Top 3 daily responsibilities

• Manage Issues on GitHub (route to Google teams, follow up, escalate and resolve)
• Manage PRs on GitHub (merge PRs, collaborate with contributors, assign to Google reviewers, make sure no PR stalls)
• Release Bazel at a regular cadence (collaboratively define scope, picks PRs, keep downstream projects green, run the releases)

 Additional responsibilities

• Improve release and test infrastructure (Buildkite, Kokoro, custom integration)
• Improve the PR process (Bazel affects Google’s production code which poses high requirements on accepting patches)
• Answer questions from the community and user
• Resolve issues with code and/or documentation
• Improve and extend issue and PR metrics

Required skills

We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in Python and Java, and with previous experience working on large software projects. A majority of our work also relies on working with CI infrastructure and testing. Along with testing, we would like the candidate to be able to troubleshoot and debug basic infrastructure failures and build breakages. The ability to learn quickly will also go a long way as our team works with numerous different technical tools. 

As this role requires to interact with external users and contributors, we’re looking for someone who has strong communication skills. Our project requires the ability to answer questions and possibly close out user requests for features or contributions diplomatically. 

• Hands-on experience in Python
• Hands-on experience in JavaScript with Visual Studio Code
• Experience working on large software projects
• Experience working with CI infrastructure and testing
• Be able to troubleshoot and debug basic infrastructure failures and build breakages
• Ability to learn quickly
