About the RoleWe are seeking a
Senior Information Security Engineer with deep, hands-on expertise in
Thales CipherTrust Key Manager and CipherTrust Transparent Encryption (CTE) to support enterprise data protection and encryption capabilities.
In this role, you will serve as a lead subject matter expert for an enterprise unstructured-data encryption environment. You will engineer, support, troubleshoot, and enhance CipherTrust solutions across Linux and Windows platforms while helping establish technical standards and mature the team's overall CipherTrust capabilities.
This position requires more than general encryption or cryptography experience. The successful candidate will have significant hands-on experience with
Thales CipherTrust, including advanced product functionality, operating-system-level troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrades, and production support.
You will also play an important leadership role by mentoring engineers, documenting best practices, and helping the broader team develop stronger CipherTrust expertise.
What You'll Do- Serve as a lead SME for Thales CipherTrust Key Manager and CipherTrust Transparent Encryption (CTE).
- Engineer, administer, support, and optimize enterprise encryption and key management solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex CipherTrust CTE issues across Linux and Windows environments, including OS and kernel-level interactions.
- Perform operating system administration, troubleshooting, hardening, and performance tuning.
- Lead testing and implementation activities for CipherTrust infrastructure, firmware, security patch, and version upgrades.
- Develop implementation plans, technical stories, operating procedures, standards, and support documentation.
- Support enterprise change, incident, and problem management activities.
- Design and implement automation using technologies such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, VBScript, JavaScript, or similar tools.
- Support cryptographic technologies including encryption, tokenization, transparent data encryption, and format-preserving encryption.
- Build, administer, and support hardware security modules (HSMs) and related security appliances.
- Apply knowledge of cryptographic protocols, algorithms, and enterprise key management practices.
- Partner with security, engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams to deliver scalable and resilient security solutions.
- Mentor junior and developing engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, training, and documented best practices.
- Help establish repeatable engineering standards that improve the team's operational maturity and supportability.
Minimum Qualifications- 5+ years of Information Security Engineering experience, demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, education, or a combination of these.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Thales CipherTrust Key Manager and CipherTrust Transparent Encryption (CTE).
- 5+ years of Unix/Linux and Windows systems administration experience, including advanced troubleshooting, OS hardening, and performance tuning.
- 5+ years of scripting or automation experience using technologies such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, VBScript, JavaScript, or similar tools.
- 5+ years of experience with encryption and/or tokenization technologies.
- 3+ years of experience building, administering, or supporting HSMs or security appliance devices.
- Advanced understanding of cryptographic protocols and algorithms.
- Strong knowledge of cryptographic technologies and enterprise key management.
- Understanding of format-preserving encryption (FPE), tokenization, and transparent data encryption (TDE).
- Experience implementing infrastructure upgrades, security patches, firmware updates, and version upgrades for systems, appliances, or HSMs.
- Experience supporting applications within Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Experience with Agile Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience with change and incident management practices in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working in a complex, fast-paced technology or information security organization within a large enterprise.
- Experience performing technical product assessments and developing implementation plans.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to less-experienced engineers.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or comparable automation/configuration-management technologies.
- Experience designing and implementing synthetic transactions to monitor applications or infrastructure.
- Experience within banking or financial services.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver against aggressive timelines.
- Security certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or equivalent.
- Cloud certifications such as AZ-900, MS-900, or equivalent/higher-level certifications.
What Success Looks LikeThe successful candidate will be someone who can quickly become a trusted technical authority for the CipherTrust environment. You should be comfortable independently troubleshooting sophisticated encryption issues while also helping other engineers develop their capabilities.
Success in this role includes:
- Improving the stability and supportability of the CipherTrust environment.
- Establishing clear engineering standards and documentation.
- Successfully leading upcoming CipherTrust infrastructure and firmware upgrade activities.
- Reducing dependency on individual engineers through effective knowledge transfer.
- Strengthening the team's troubleshooting, operational, and product expertise.
- Building repeatable processes for future upgrades, incidents, changes, and platform enhancements.
