Summary

The Equity Investment Management Systems (EIMS) organization is seeking a highly skilled Senior Developer to build and support technology solutions that power Vanguard's Equity Investment Group (EIG) . In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain mission-critical applications that support portfolio management, trading, investment research, analytics, and operational workflows across Vanguard's global equity business.

You will work closely with portfolio managers, traders, product managers, architects, and fellow engineers to develop innovative, scalable, and resilient solutions that enable investment professionals to make informed decisions and efficiently manage portfolios.

This role supports Vanguard's custom, AWS-based portfolio management platform used by investment teams and trading desks across Pennsylvania, Arizona, London, and Melbourne. The platform supports the management of trillions of dollars in equity assets and facilitates approximately $800 billion in annual equity trading volume, making it a critical component of Vanguard's investment ecosystem.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support high-quality software solutions that enable portfolio management, trading, investment research, and investment data workflows.
  • Ensures the viability of IT deliverables. Recommends development options, including design, build/buy, and vendor purchase. Conducts testing, including functionality, technical limitations, and security.
  • Thoroughly understands client business functions and technology needs. Has a broad and deep understanding of Vanguard's technologies, tools, and applications, including those that interface with business area and systems. Is well versed on the latest technologies and tools supporting software development in the industry.
  • Collaborate with product managers, investment professionals, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives and provide technical guidance to developers, driving best practices in software design, coding standards, testing, and code reviews.
  • Build and enhance cloud-based applications and services using modern engineering practices, including AWS, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and DevOps principles.
  • Support production applications and drive operational excellence through incident analysis, root cause remediation, performance optimization, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Contribute to architecture and design decisions, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with enterprise technology standards. Partner with cross-functional teams to manage dependencies, deliver strategic initiatives, and continuously improve the investment technology platform

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience, with at least two years of development experience
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred
  • Experience in software architecture and system design for enterprise applications
  • Hands on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, TypeScript, Angular/React, AG Grid and Nx and designing scalable APIs and distributed systems
  • Proficiency in AWS cloud technologies

Nice to Have:
  • Experience supporting investment management, asset management, trading, or capital markets applications
  • Knowledge of portfolio management, order management, trading workflows, or investment analytics
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools
  • Experience working in cloud modernization or digital transformation initiatives
  • Production support to critical applicatio n
