Summary

Senior Project Manager: Shipbuilding & Marine Construction
Job Summary

Core Group Resources is hiring an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead execution and delivery of major shipbuilding and marine construction projects. You\'ll own assigned vessel or project scope end to end, from planning and design maturity through fabrication, outfitting, systems integration, testing, completion, and final turnover. You\'ll bring Engineering, Planning, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Configuration Management, Testing, Finance, and Program Controls together into one coordinated execution plan.

This is a senior role for a leader who can manage technical scope, cost, schedule, production, quality, and risk at the same time. You\'ll work closely with engineering and project teams and spend regular time in active fabrication shops, production areas, docks, and vessels under construction.
Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned vessel, unit, or major project scope from planning through fabrication, outfitting, testing, completion, and turnover.
  • Build and maintain integrated execution plans covering scope, schedule, resources, milestones, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and delivery requirements.
  • Keep labor, materials, tooling, work packages, inspections, and testing aligned with the project schedule.
  • Monitor cost, schedule, production progress, material availability, subcontractor performance, and remaining work.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, Estimate to Complete (ETC), and Estimate at Completion (EAC).
  • Identify cost, schedule, technical, production, supplier, quality, and delivery risks, and put corrective or recovery plans in place.
  • Evaluate scope changes and their impact on technical requirements, schedule, budget, production, and delivery.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings that set clear priorities, responsibilities, milestones, and action items.
  • Report project status, forecasts, risks, and recovery plans to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical and production interfaces between major vessel systems, work packages, and teams.
  • Support configuration control, baseline management, earned value, variance analysis, and formal change control.
  • Ensure projects meet all safety, quality, technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible project, program, production, engineering, or construction management experience.
  • Significant experience in shipbuilding, boatbuilding, marine construction, maritime systems, defense manufacturing, or a similarly complex industrial environment.
  • Proven responsibility for major projects covering technical performance, cost, schedule, production, quality, and risk.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary or matrixed teams across engineering and operations.
  • Strong understanding of vessel construction, including fabrication, outfitting, systems integration, testing, completion, and turnover.
  • Experience building integrated schedules, budgets, forecasts, and execution plans, with a strong grasp of project controls, risk management, and change management.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, contracts, and project performance data.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and executive presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and project scheduling, ERP, or project-control systems.
  • Comfort working in active industrial and shipyard settings.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance may be required, depending on project assignment.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Engineering Technology, Project Management, Business, Operations, Construction Management, or a related field. Significant directly relevant shipbuilding, maritime, defense, or industrial project management experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience managing major vessel construction or maritime programs.
  • Experience on U.S. Government or defense projects.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), Control Account Management (CAM), Performance Measurement Baselines (PMB), and baseline change control.
  • PMP, EVP, PSP, RMP, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar certification.
