100% Remote, Contract OverviewOur healthcare client is seeking a highly experienced
Cloud Application Architect with deep healthcare expertise to lead the modernization and migration of core clinical and third-party applications onto Azure and AWS platforms. This role is responsible for designing, validating, and guiding cloud architectures that improve reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency for hospital and health-system environments.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with
Epic, Cerner, and major ancillary healthcare systems, understands the complexities of EMR/EHR ecosystems, and has delivered multiple cloud migration or data-center modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Cloud Architecture & Design - Lead the end-to-end application architecture for healthcare cloud migrations across Azure and AWS.
- Architect secure, highly available, compliant solutions for Epic, Cerner, and critical third-party systems (lab, radiology, cardiology, ERP, PACS, HIM, integration engines, etc.).
- Define cloud landing zones, network topology, IAM, encryption, tagging, FinOps structure, and disaster recovery patterns aligned to HITECH, HIPAA, HITRUST, and cloud provider best practices.
- Partner with infrastructure, security, clinical application owners, and data teams to design future-state integrations across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid workloads.
Healthcare Application Modernization - Lead application assessments, migration strategies, and readiness analysis for hospital portfolios.
- Identify modernization patterns (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, replace) for both clinical and non-clinical apps.
- Develop data-migration, integration, and high-availability strategies for EMR and ancillary systems.
- Collaborate with clinical informatics teams to ensure workflow continuity, minimal downtime, and robust cutover plans.
Migration Execution & Delivery - Serve as a senior technical lead during migration waves, working with engineering, application teams, and system integrators.
- Guide the buildout of cloud environments, including compute, storage, networking, security controls, databases, containers, and serverless.
- Provide technical oversight for pilot migrations, proofs of concept, and rapid prototyping.
- Ensure all migration activities follow compliance and regulatory standards, with validated testing and rollback plans.
Cross-Functional Leadership - Act as a liaison between cloud engineering, clinical applications, business partners, and external vendors.
- Translate complex technical designs into executive-level communication for CIO, CMIO, CTO, and CISO audiences.
- Support program governance, architectural reviews, risk mitigation planning, and value realization tracking.
Required Qualifications- 7-10+ years in enterprise application architecture, cloud architecture, or healthcare IT engineering.
- Proven experience supporting or integrating Epic, Cerner, or another major EMR/EHR system.
- Demonstrated experience migrating clinical and ancillary applications to Azure and/or AWS.

- Expertise in migration tooling and frameworks (Azure Migrate, AWS Migration Hub, CloudEndure, Zerto, HCX, database replication tools).
- Strong experience designing or supporting core clinical systems (Epic, Cerner) and third-party apps (PACS, Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, ERP, RevCycle, imaging, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications- Experience delivering full hospital or IDN cloud migrations (Epic-in-Cloud, Cerner-in-Cloud, hybrid deployments).
- Cloud certifications:
- AWS Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert
