Sr. Controls Engineer

Job Summary
The Controls Engineer will design, develop, and support automation control systems used in industrial equipment and production environments. This role focuses on PLC/HMI programming, controls integration, system commissioning, and troubleshooting across a range of automated machinery. The Controls Engineer ensures systems are robust, efficient, and compliant with industry standards while partnering with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Define control system requirements for new automation projects or system upgrades.
• Develop PLC, HMI, and related control logic, including hardware specifications and integration.
• Lead controls integration, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure all systems meet safety, code, and performance standards.
• Produce technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and support build activities.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.
• Troubleshoot and debug system controls both in-house and onsite.
• Maintain technical expertise by staying current with industry standards and emerging technologies.
• Support training, knowledge sharing, and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems.
• Strong proficiency with PLC-based control platforms and industrial safety components.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development, I/O systems, and field device integration.
• Skilled in reading and creating electrical schematics and using diagnostic tools.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work independently or collaboratively.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with robotics integration, Ethernet/IP or similar industrial network architectures, and power systems.
• Familiarity with VFDs, servos, and motion control systems.
• Proficiency with network and power analyzers.

Working Conditions

• Based in El Dorado Hills, CA; occasional travel for commissioning and site support.
• Full-time, bonus eligible.
• Salary: $100,000-$135,000 depending on experience.
