The Controls Engineer will design, develop, and support automation control systems used in industrial equipment and production environments. This role focuses on PLC/HMI programming, controls integration, system commissioning, and troubleshooting across a range of automated machinery. The Controls Engineer ensures systems are robust, efficient, and compliant with industry standards while partnering with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Define control system requirements for new automation projects or system upgrades.
- Develop PLC, HMI, and related control logic, including hardware specifications and integration.
- Lead controls integration, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure all systems meet safety, code, and performance standards.
- Produce technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and support build activities.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.
- Troubleshoot and debug system controls both in-house and onsite.
- Maintain technical expertise by staying current with industry standards and emerging technologies.
- Support training, knowledge sharing, and vendor coordination.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems.
- Strong proficiency with PLC-based control platforms and industrial safety components.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA development, I/O systems, and field device integration.
- Skilled in reading and creating electrical schematics and using diagnostic tools.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work independently or collaboratively.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with robotics integration, Ethernet/IP or similar industrial network architectures, and power systems.
- Familiarity with VFDs, servos, and motion control systems.
- Proficiency with network and power analyzers.
Working Conditions
- Based in El Dorado Hills, CA; occasional travel for commissioning and site support.
- Full-time, bonus eligible.
- Salary: $100,000-$135,000 depending on experience.
