In this role, the candidate will support the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure. This position is responsible for ensuring reliable connectivity across LAN/WAN environments while collaborating with senior engineers on network design and optimization. The ideal candidate brings networking fundamentals and a hands-on approach to supporting production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco and Juniper Networks.
- Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving connectivity, latency, and packet loss issues.
- Implement and support core networking technologies including VLANs, routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, and basic network security controls.
- Troubleshoot network incidents across LAN/WAN environments, performing root cause analysis and documenting resolutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support network changes, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
- Travel to remote locations to lead and perform network installations, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates to program personnel.
- Support critical activities outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Generally has 7+ years of related experience. Must be a proven network engineer with hands-on experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies.
Technical Skills:- Understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF.
- Network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
- Firewall experience, especially with Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
- Experience in UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.
- Hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching/routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizers, and optical transport equipment.
- Effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft Office products.
- Understanding of standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts.
Certifications:- An IAT Level II 8570 Compliant Certification is required (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA).
- A CCNA or JNCIA certification is required.
