Job Description
Data Center Automation Engineer (ServiceNow / Ansible / SharePoint)
Summary
We’re looking for a hands-on Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain automation across our data center environment, with a focus on ServiceNow workflow/orchestration, Ansible playbooks/pipelines, and SharePoint automation for documentation, approvals, and knowledge management. The ideal candidate brings strong infrastructure fundamentals (Linux/Windows/networking/storage), IaC mindset, and a track record of translating manual runbooks into reliable, scalable, and auditable automation.
Key Responsibilities
- ServiceNow Automation & Integration
- Design and implement Service Catalog, Workflows, Approvals, Notification rules, and Orchestration/Flows for provisioning, incident, change, and request processes.
- Build ServiceNow integrations with CMDB, discovery, monitoring, and automation tools (e.g., Ansible Tower/AWX) using REST, webhooks, and MID servers.
- Maintain CMDB data quality and drive data center CI relationships/attributes alignment with automation.
- Ansible & Infrastructure as Code
- Develop, version, and maintain Ansible roles/playbooks for OS builds, patching, configuration drift remediation, middleware/app deployments, and compliance hardening (RHEL/Windows).
- Operate/analyze Ansible Tower/AWX job templates, inventories, credentials, workflows, RBAC, and notifications; integrate with CI/CD and ServiceNow.
- Implement idempotent automation with guardrails, testing, and rollbacks; manage secrets (e.g., Ansible Vault).
- SharePoint Automation & Knowledge Ops
- Automate document lifecycle (runbooks, SOPs, change records, test evidence) using Power Automate, SharePoint REST/Graph API, and templated sites/lists/libraries.
- Build approval workflows, metadata tagging, retention, and structured repositories aligned to audit/compliance needs.
- Create self-service knowledge portals and dashboards for operations teams.
- Operations & Reliability
- Convert manual data center tasks (provisioning, patching, backup checks, standard changes) into automated jobs with observability, logging, and alerting.
- Contribute to runbooks, UAT plans, and post-implementation reviews; drive continuous improvement and SLO/SLA adherence.
- Partner with SMEs (network, storage, virtualization, backup, security) to prioritize and deliver automation backlogs.
Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- 5–8+ years in infrastructure/operations/automation (data center or large enterprise).
- ServiceNow: Workflows/Flow Designer, Catalog/Request, Change/Incident, CMDB, Integrations (REST/MID), basic scripting (JavaScript/Glide).
- Ansible: Strong YAML, roles, inventories, Tower/AWX administration, Ansible Vault, CI/CD integration.
- SharePoint/Power Platform: Power Automate flows, SharePoint site/list/library automation, Graph API/REST basics.
- Scripting: Python and/or PowerShell for glue code, APIs, and data transformations.
- Infra foundations: Linux/Windows, AD/LDAP, networking basics (DNS/DHCP/TCP/IP), virtualization (VMware/Hyper‑V), storage concepts.
- Version control (Git), Agile practices, and change management discipline (CAB, RFCs, test evidence).
Nice-to-Haves
- ServiceNow certifications (CSA, CIS – ITSM/Discovery/CMDB/ITOM/IntegrationHub).
- Red Hat Ansible certification or RHCSA/RHCE.
- MECM/SCCM, Terraform, Packer, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, Python FastAPI/Flask for internal automations.
- Exposure to DCIM, backup platforms (NetBackup/Commvault), monitoring (Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus), ITIL certification.
- Security/compliance experience (CIS/STIG hardening, patch windows, RBAC, audit evidence automation).
Tools & Environment
