Accounting Manager

The Opportunity

StaffRight Associates is recruiting for an Accounting Manager to join a large, well-established insurance organization in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a full-time, direct-hire, on-site position. The Accounting Manager will build, coach, and lead a team of accounting professionals while owning U.S. GAAP reporting and accounting for property and casualty (P&C) insurance operations, along with statutory reporting when required. Partnering closely with the corporate accounting group as well as insurance finance and operations teams, the Accounting Manager will steer how the team adopts new processes and play a central part in expanding the insurance business.

Beyond the numbers, this leader distributes assignments, evaluates the team's deliverables, and grows each individual's skill set, while driving improvements that help the group produce accurate results quickly and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Lead individual contributors through monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles for the insurance holding entity and its carrier companies, planning timelines, delegating tasks, tracking status, and removing obstacles to deliver an accurate, timely close
  • Define clear expectations for every direct report, evaluate their deliverables, and provide candid feedback, taking ownership of overall team quality
  • Design, document, and maintain internal control procedures that support accurate and timely financial reporting, and ensure consistent adherence across the team
  • Scrutinize team members' schedules for accuracy and regulatory compliance, confirming all work is fully vetted before it moves up the chain
  • Coach direct reports on financial systems and oversee the critical interfaces and handoffs the team relies on
  • Propose enhancements to financial systems and related processes, then drive implementation and designate owners within the team
  • Spearhead departmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives, including efforts outside the regular close cycle, assigning accountability for each component and following through on results

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5–15 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Required insurance industry background with Statutory Accounting, GAAP, and P&C Insurance Accounting
  • Required supervisory or managerial experience in Accounting Management
  • Working knowledge of NAIC Statement Preparation, including quarterly and annual statement content
  • Hands-on experience with Large-Scale Accounting Systems
  • Meticulous eye for detail in a fast-moving setting, with the agility to adjust quickly as conditions shift and still deliver results
  • Strong Analytical Skills and Problem Solving abilities
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
  • Preferred: Advanced Excel expertise

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Salary: $110,000 - $150,000 annually
  • Engagement: Full-time, direct hire; on-site in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Benefits: Full benefits package
