SAP Instructional Designer

Job Title: SAP Instructional Designer
Start Date: Targeting approximately November 1, 2026
Duration: 6-month contract with potential extension or conversion to full-time; full-time also considered
Location: Remote
Interview Dates: Expected to begin the week of September 28, 2026

Overview

A Mako client, a government organization, is seeking an experienced SAP Instructional Designer to support existing and upcoming enterprise training initiatives.

This is a hands-on instructional design role. The organization already has an established training framework, templates, standards, and a library of on-demand learning content. Several courses are currently in progress and need to be completed, while additional courses need to be updated or created for upcoming projects.

The client needs someone who can take business requirements and independently turn them into complete training content - from the initial outline through scripting, course development, video recording, annotation, and final delivery.

Current Environment & Project

The organization has spent several years moving training toward an on-demand learning model.

The current environment includes:

  • Articulate for course development
  • Video recording and annotation
  • Cornerstone as the Learning Management System
  • Existing course templates, standards, and development guidelines
  • Several partially completed courses
  • Existing courses requiring updates
  • New courses that will need to be created
  • Additional project-driven training needs expected in the near future

The person joining the team will not be starting from zero. There is an established framework and existing content, but the client needs someone who can take ownership of both unfinished and new development work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with business and technical stakeholders to understand training requirements.
  • Translate business processes and system functionality into clear adult-learning content.
  • Create course outlines and learning structures.
  • Develop complete e-learning courses using Articulate.
  • Write scripts for instructional and system-training videos.
  • Record, edit, and annotate training videos.
  • Create supporting materials such as job aids, process guides, reference materials, and course documentation.
  • Update existing training courses as business processes or systems change.
  • Complete courses that are already in development.
  • Develop new training content for upcoming SAP and enterprise technology projects.
  • Publish and support online training through Cornerstone.
  • Work within established training templates, standards, and development guidelines.
  • Partner with the hiring manager and SMEs while independently managing the actual course-development process.
  • Challenge unclear requirements when necessary and help turn business input into effective learning content.

The manager specifically emphasized the need for someone who can execute, rather than someone who primarily creates strategy and then relies on others to build the content.

Ideal Background

The strongest candidate will be comfortable taking a conversation with a business SME, creating an outline, confirming the approach, and then independently developing the finished course.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Articulate Storyline / Articulate 360
  • Adult learning and instructional design
  • E-learning development
  • Video scripting and recording
  • Video annotation
  • Learning Management Systems
  • Cornerstone
  • SAP or other enterprise ERP environments
  • Process documentation
  • End-user system training
  • On-demand learning programs

Required Qualifications

  • Strong professional experience in instructional design and adult learning.
  • Hands-on experience building e-learning courses using Articulate or a comparable platform.
  • Ability to independently turn business requirements into finished training content.
  • Experience developing course outlines, scripts, learning modules, and supporting materials.
  • Experience recording and annotating instructional or system-training videos.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work directly with SMEs and ask effective follow-up questions.
  • Ability to manage multiple course-development efforts with limited supervision.
  • SAP or enterprise ERP training experience strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable joining an established training program and working within existing templates and standards.
