Genesis10 is currently seeking a Staff Systems Engineer - Remote for a 12+ month contract position with a Global Medical Technology Company located in San Diego, CA. This position is 100% remote.
Compensation: $67.00 - $77.00 per hour, W2, based on qualifications Position Overview: This is a senior-level role for an experienced
Systems Engineer with strong expertise in software-intensive systems, requirements engineering, architecture decomposition, interfaces, traceability, and risk management. The ideal candidate will translate product, user, operational, and regulatory needs into high-quality system and software requirements for mobile applications, web applications, backend services, APIs, and cloud platforms. This role involves driving technical alignment across cross-functional teams in a complex product development environment.
Key Responsibilities: - Own feature- and subsystem-level Systems Engineering activities for software-intensive products across iOS/Android mobile apps, web applications, backend services, APIs, SDKs, and cloud services
- Translate product, user, clinical, regulatory, and operational needs into clear, feasible, and testable system and software requirements
- Author, review, baseline, and maintain System and Software Requirements Specifications in Jama Connect
- Define and maintain end-to-end traceability among user needs, system requirements, software requirements, architecture, risk controls, and verification evidence
- Develop and maintain interface requirements, data-flow definitions, workflow models, and API specifications
- Lead requirements and technical reviews, resolve ambiguity, and drive cross-functional alignment
- Partner with Product Management, Software Engineering, Architecture, Verification, Quality, and Regulatory teams
- Contribute to system hazard analysis, software risk assessment, and definition of risk-control requirements in accordance with ISO 14971 principles
- Support verification planning, defect investigations, and release impact assessments
- Mentor other engineers on software requirements quality, traceability, and regulated Systems Engineering practices
Primary Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 6+ years with a Master's degree in Systems or requirements engineering for software-intensive products
- Direct hands-on experience writing requirements for mobile applications, web applications, backend services, APIs, SDKs, or cloud platforms
- Demonstrated experience using Jama Connect or an equivalent requirements management platform
- Proven experience owning end-to-end traceability between user needs, system requirements, risk controls, and verification
- Experience with software systems architecture, including mobile apps, cloud services, APIs, and backend systems
- Demonstrated technical leadership driving alignment among cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Jama Connect, Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
Desired Skills: - Master's degree
- Experience in a regulated industry such as medical device, digital health, or SaMD
- Knowledge of ISO 14971 risk management and IEC 62304
- Experience with iOS/Android application ecosystems, REST APIs, microservices, and distributed architectures
- INCOSE CSEP certification
- Experience with AI-assisted requirements engineering and traceability
