The Workday Functional Consultant (Payroll) will configure, govern, and continuously improve Workday Payroll related functionality and processes for Lennar. Partnering with onshore HRIS, Payroll Operations, Finance, and vendor teams, you will own Payroll business processes, pay components, earning/deduction rules, accumulators, tax setup, pay groups/schedules, and payroll data flows to and from thirdparty systems using PECI/Payroll Interface, Cloud Connect, EIB, and (as needed) Workday Studio. The role aligns with Lennar s focus on platform integrations, stability, and compliant payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
1) Payroll Functional Design & Configuration
- Configure and maintain Workday Payroll components: earning/deduction definitions, pay components, accumulators, costing allocations, pay groups/schedules, calendars, and grosstonet process steps. (Industrystandard payroll functional scope)
- Own Payroll Business Processes (hire, job change, onetime payments, retro, terminations), validation rules, condition logic, and routing to ensure accurate, timely payroll execution. (Functional BP governance
- Evaluate Workday feature releases for payroll impact; recommend and implement configuration changes while maintaining auditability and compliance.
2) Payroll Integrations & Data Flows
- Design and support outbound/inbound payroll data flows using Workday Cloud Connect for ThirdParty Payroll and PECI / Payroll Interface (PI); ensure correct effectivedated deltas, sequencing, and error handling
- Build and operate EIB templates for payroll mass operations (e.g., assigning pay groups, rate/element updates), and coordinate with onshore teams on secure file exchanges and schedules.
- Partner with integration engineers on Studio enhancements when logic surpasses nocode connectors; align with Lennar s integration architecture and governance.
3) Payroll Operations Support & Compliance
- Serve as Tier2 functional SME for prepayroll validations, retro calculations, offcycle scenarios, and reconciliation of PECI/PI results from thirdparty payroll providers.
- Collaborate with Payroll, HR, and Finance to maintain data integrity, resolve defects quickly, and document root causes/preventive actions.
- Support internal controls, SOXaligned documentation, and audit requests by maintaining traceable configuration and change logs (industry norm for payroll governance).
4) Testing, UAT & Release Readiness
- Create test scenarios/scripts for payroll cycles, retro events, yearend processes, and vendor file exchanges; lead UAT and coordinate cutovers.
- Validate Workday biannual updates and any vendor connector changes that may affect payroll timelines or results.
5) Documentation, Training & Continuous Improvement
- Produce functional design docs, configuration workbooks, mapping specs, SOPs, and runbooks for payroll processes and interfaces.
- Analyze recurring issues and propose automation/standardization (e.g., leveraging PECI granularity, futureperiod scans, and field overrides) to reduce manual interventions.
Required Qualifications
- 3 6+ years in Workday Payroll (Functional) with handson configuration of earnings/deductions, accumulators, pay groups, pay schedules, costing, and payroll BPs. (Industry baseline)
- Practical experience with PECI/Payroll Interface and Workday Cloud Connect for ThirdParty Payroll; comfortable with effectivedated deltas, sequencing, and bidirectional flows.
- Proficiency with EIB for payroll data loads and updates; familiarity with security considerations and audit trails.
- Strong understanding of data integrity and governance for HR/Payroll platforms; ability to work in a global, integrated HR tech environment.
- Excellent communication skills to partner with onshore Payroll/HRIS and external payroll vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Workday Studio for advanced payroll integration usecases (in partnership with integration teams).
- Workday Payroll/Integrations certifications (highly preferred). (Industry expectation)
- Experience supporting yearend payroll, tax updates, retro processing, and reconciliations with thirdparty payroll partners (aligned with Cloud Connect operating model).
- Familiarity with global payroll connectivity and vendor selection considerations (API strategy, compliance, unified reporting).
