Position Description

About Harris County Housing & Community Development:
Harris County Housing & Community Development provides life-enhancing projects and programs to residents of Harris County. Our services include spurring community investment through the provision of home-buying programs, partnering with community members and housing developers to build diverse housing options that uplift communities, and offering other assistance that supports community building.

Senior IT Technician Overview:
The Senior IT Technician provides hands-on technical support by investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving routine to moderately complex issues related to software, hardware, telecommunications, data systems, and operating environments. This position supports county departments by assisting with access to internal networks, enterprise applications, AI tools, and Internet services in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Senior IT Technician documents service requests, provides follow-up on ongoing issues, and escalates or refers more complex technical problems to appropriate technical teams to ensure timely and effective resolution.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Receives, tracks, and resolves help desk tickets by providing timely technical support and troubleshooting assistance to all users. Diagnoses hardware, software, and system issues; documents resolutions; escalates complex or unresolved issues as appropriate; and ensures compliance with established IT policies, procedures, and service level expectations.
  • Performs intermediate to advanced management of Active Directory and Artificial Intelligence, including users, groups, computers, and organizational units construction. Creating and standardizing workflows using AI tools.
  • Assists with inventory management, including forecasting what additional equipment the department may need.
  • Performs daily troubleshooting of computers, software, printers, scanners, A/V systems, and other technology.
  • Resolves technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and remote connection systems.
  • Assists the IT team with development, maintenance, testing, and execution of disaster recovery plans.
  • Assists with the setup of office furniture to include personal computers and printers, as well as with deployments in a large-scale computer environment, including unboxing, cabling, and initializing new technology equipment.
  • Coordinates with external teams for maintenance and certain services related to network hardware and configuration, software, audio/video, facilities and building issues, and telecommunications services.

Requirements

Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent plus one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school.

Experience:
Four (4) years of experience working in a large/multiple office environment in an IT Technician role.

Licensure:
Valid Driver's License (Texas upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
The ability to interact with staff at all levels.
Strong knowledge of personal computers, specifically Microsoft products, and TCP/IP network functionality.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular
Monday - Friday | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Flexible/hybrid work schedule.
This role requires reporting to multiple offices as necessary to carry out duties, especially in preparation for and in times of emergencies.
May be required to work more than forty hours during the work week or on weekends when special projects or deadlines need to be met.

Work Environment:
The job is performed in a professional office environment; No special safety precautions are required.

Physical Demands:
Physical ability to lift forty (40) pounds and/or move boxes and equipment as needed.
Occasionally will involve the transfer of equipment from one location to another.
Subject to kneeling, crouching, handling, climbing, walking, sitting, twisting and reaching to perform the essential functions.
Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
