We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the day-to-day execution of two workstreams, supporting business requirements gathering, engineering deliverables, and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate can translate business needs into actionable requirements, manage dependencies and risks, remove blockers, and proactively communicate project status and recovery plans. This individual must be comfortable navigating technical discussions, working with third-party vendors, and using Jira, Jira Plans, Confluence, and Smartsheet to maintain project visibility and momentum while partnering with Program Managers on overall delivery.
Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day execution of both workstreams, allowing the Program Managers to step back from tactical involvement.
- Lead business requirements gathering for the MDM project, working directly with downstream retail system owners to capture data needs, field mappings, integration requirements, and data quality and matching rules.
- Translate business requirements into epics, stories, and acceptance criteria for engineers and vendors to execute.
- Manage daily engineering tasks and ensure developers stay on track with deliverables.
- Capture and monitor project dependencies and risks across both workstreams.
- Proactively communicate project status, risks, and delays to the Program Managers, including potential impacts, recovery options, and recommendations.
- Maintain project documentation and task statuses in Jira, including the transition toward Jira Plans, and Smartsheet.
- Lead stand-ups and tactical meetings with engineers and technical leads to identify and resolve blockers.
- Analyze task paths to mitigate impacts and identify alternative work that can be accelerated when dependencies are blocked, maintaining overall project velocity.
- Work closely with both Program Managers to provide status updates while allowing them to focus on high-level stakeholder management.
Must Haves
- 5+ years of project management experience, beyond Scrum Master responsibilities or facilitation alone.
- Demonstrated business requirements gathering experience, ideally with data migration or platform implementation projects.
- A go-getter mindset and the experience to navigate technical discussions with engineers independently.
- Genuine curiosity about the work and the ability to understand what systems do and why, rather than simply tracking timelines and tickets.
- Ability to take an outcome and independently determine the steps needed to achieve it.
- Proactive communication skills, including sharing updates, flagging risks early, and providing information without being prompted.
- Strong Jira skills, including the ability to move away from manual tracking sheets and leverage Jira Plans.
- Experience using Confluence for tracking and reporting.
Nice-to-Haves
- Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) or large-scale data migration projects.
- Experience working with third-party implementation vendors.
- Background as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst before transitioning into project management.
- Retail or customer data experience.
