Job Description:
IT - Test Engineer III

Location: Home, Virginia (Remote)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Test Engineer to interact with developers and stakeholders to define, document, analyze, execute, and interpret system integration tests for a complex payroll software application. This role involves reviewing user requirements, developing test plans and data, and ensuring the proper execution and documentation of test scripts. The successful candidate will ensure quality software solutions that meet specified requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with developers and stakeholders to define, document, analyze, execute, and interpret system integration tests.
  • Review user requirements documentation and develop test plans to verify requirements have been met.
  • Develop test data to be used in performing tests and transform test plans into test scripts.
  • Ensure proper execution of test scripts and document test results in tracking systems.
  • Analyze test results, document conclusions, and make recommendations supported by test results.
  • Ensure testing procedures and results comply with required standards.
  • Perform functional testing, including Smoke Testing, Regression Testing, and End-to-End (E2E) Testing.
  • Oversee the efforts of direct reporting resources and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
  • Provide training and mentorship to less experienced personnel.
Required Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of eight years of experience in software development, software quality assurance/control, or a related field. Experience with formal software testing for complex applications, including identifying and documenting defects and authoring software-quality-related documentation is required.

Education: A degree from an accredited college or university in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of the software development cycle and testing methodologies. Proficient in running manual tests and incorporating automated testing processes. Experience with multiple defect tracking tools and using AI-driven tools for test script generation is necessary. Payroll domain knowledge is required, including understanding payroll cycles, tax calculations, and federal, state, and local payroll laws.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps, Agile Scrum, and VersionOne or an equivalent Agile project management tool.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SDLC practices.
  • Proficiency in PLSQL.
  • Experience with payroll systems and processing.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools (e.g., CoPilot, WatsonX, ReDux) for code analysis or pattern recognition.
  • Mainframe knowledge is a plus.
Additional Requirements
  • Must have lived in the US for the past five years.
  • Cannot have more than six months of travel outside the United States within the last five years, with an exclusion for military service.
  • Must be able to perform all functional duties independently on high-visibility programs.
  • Possess strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
