About the Role

Lead Market Data Systems Engineer, Technology Data & Data Access

Job Summary

The successful candidate will manage critical aspects of Market Data, Trader Voice, and Trading Core Infrastructure technologies and will report directly to the Manager of Core Transactional Technologies. This role requires close collaboration with vendors and IT teams to resolve technical issues and drive strategic initiatives within Market Data and Trading Technology. The position is based in Boston, with regular attendance required at our Needham, MA office.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you play a critical role in shaping and sustaining the firm's core technology environment. You drive strategic initiatives, lead complex, cross-functional programs, and ensure the reliable delivery and continuous improvement of mission-critical Trading and Investor services.
  • Analyze enterprise-wide business and information requirements, recommending scalable, firm-wide system solutions.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of major technology programs and business initiatives.
  • Architect, design, and implement high-impact, mission-critical systems supporting core Trading and Investor platforms.
  • Partner with engineering leads, managers, and business stakeholders across the organization to align technology outcomes with strategic objectives.
  • Define and maintain technical roadmaps for IT initiatives, platform modernization, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Collaborate with team leads and management to deliver IT services and proprietary products with high availability and performance.
  • Develop feasibility studies, project plans, and detailed time and cost estimates to support informed decision-making.
  • Identify root causes of complex technical issues and clearly communicate remediation and risk-mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to IT governance frameworks, including Change Control, Architecture Review, Incident Management, and IT Security controls.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support production systems and ensure operational stability.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings a strong professional background with deep technical expertise and hands-on experience supporting market data and trading technologies. Success in this role requires a blend of advanced technical skills, analytical problem-solving, and a strong commitment to exceptional client service. The candidate must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, collaborative, and globally distributed environment while managing complex systems and stakeholder relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services or a related industry preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve diverse technology issues.
  • Exceptional project management, client support, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage vendors and third-party service providers effectively.
  • Proven ability to deliver in a global environment.
  • Experience with market data/trading applications, vendor feeds, and infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge and experience with market data, trading platforms and services, including but not limited to: Bloomberg and B-Pipe Datafeeds, FactSet, LSEG Refinitiv, Flextrade, Tradeweb, Liquidnet, BIDS, BlockCross, DTCC Services (Mortgage-Backed Securities, EPN), TNS, BT Radianz.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in market data delivery models, security identifiers, and entitlement management, with solid market knowledge spanning Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Commodities, Derivatives, and Private Funds.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages preferred: Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience leveraging AI productivity tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude) to improve efficiency and operational outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating applications and services in cloud environments, including AWS and/or Azure, preferred.
  • Ability to design and maintain business intelligence dashboards using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and information security; hands-on network experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and database management.
  • Knowledge of trader voice, trading turrets, and voice recording is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and information security (hands-on network experience preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build effective relationships, demonstrate customer focus, and manage vendors.

The base salary range for this position is:
USD 90,000 - 180,000
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.
