Description Robert Half's Marketing & Creative client is seeking a Technical Illustrator for a long-term freelance opportunity. This is a flexible, ongoing contract role supporting the development of product instruction manuals and assembly guides for a growing consumer products organization. Local candidates are preferred for occasional product reviews and collaboration. Hours will fluctuate based on project volume and product release schedules.
Responsibilities:- Create detailed technical illustrations and instructional graphics for consumer product manuals and documentation.
- Develop clear, easy-to-follow step-by-step visual instructions that effectively guide end users through product assembly, installation, operation, and safety procedures.
- Translate complex product information into accurate and visually engaging illustrations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand product functionality and ensure technical accuracy within all documentation.
- Maintain consistency in illustration style, visual standards, and branding across multiple product lines.
- Revise and update existing instruction manuals as products evolve or new features are introduced.
- Organize and manage illustration files, assets, and documentation.
- Ensure all instructional content meets usability, readability, and quality standards.
- Balance multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Support the creation of technical documentation for new product launches and product line expansions.
Requirements Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Technical Communication, or a related field.
- 3+ years of technical illustration experience, specifically creating artwork for print instruction manuals, assembly guides, or technical documentation.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and other illustration or design software.
- Demonstrated experience creating still-image instructional graphics and step-by-step visual guides.
- Strong understanding of visual communication principles and user-focused instructional design.
- Experience working with consumer products, manufacturing, industrial products, or similar industries is highly preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
