Job#: 3031196 Job Description: Senior Software Lead - Rocky Program
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico (Onsite)
Role Overview
Our organization is seeking a Senior Software Lead for a critical space ground system program. This role is the technical anchor for the software organization, responsible for transitioning a prototype reference system into a fully operational, large-scale ground system. This position requires an architectural thinker and experienced leader who can shape and mature the system, design for operational rigor, and guide multiple teams through a complex transition. The ideal candidate is an engineer who can design and lead, not just execute tasks in an environment with some ambiguity.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect the overall ground system software solution, redesigning a reference program for operational rigor and scalability.
- Translate loosely defined requirements into implementable, robust designs suitable for mission-critical, 24/7 operations.
- Drive design rigor appropriate for space-based operational systems and support massive data throughput.
- Lead the integration between mission systems, databases, front-end user interfaces, and test and verification teams.
- Design systems that integrate mission planning, real-time visualization, continuous operations, and interfaces with external ground systems.
- Influence staffing decisions, the decomposition of work, and the long-term structure of the software organization.
- Oversee the design, development, and analyses of software systems and lead code reviews to ensure alignment with requirements.
- Collaborate with systems engineering, mission systems, and other engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
Clearance: An active Top Secret (TS) U.S. Security Clearance is required to start, with the ability to obtain SCI eligibility post-start.
Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
Experience:- 10+ years of experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge, object-oriented design, and software patterns.
- Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems.
- Experience with Software Engineering principles, including Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management.
- Experience transitioning systems from prototype to operations and designing mission-critical systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- An active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance.
- Experience as a Technical Lead Engineer, Software Lead, Software Architect, or Chief Engineer on a complex software development program.
- Prior ground system architecture experience for space or defense programs.
- Formal functional design experience (e.g., DoDAF).
- Experience with one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., REACT, jQuery UI), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
- Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management using tools like Git or Jenkins.
- Experience with software for control systems, embedded FPGA, low-latency deterministic systems, operator interfaces, or control of gimbals and ground antennas.
- Experience using cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
