Job Duties:The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire an
Engineer to join our Public Utilities team! This role will prepare and review plans, specifications, estimates, and reports involving the construction, maintenance, and operation of a variety of engineering projects including water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater, to ensure compliance with Public Utilities standards and city, state, and federal requirements.
This position will be filled as an Engineer I or II, depending upon the qualifications of the candidate selected. - Engineer I - A12 - $62,857.60 to $97,427.20
- Engineer II - A14 - $69,298.32 to $107,412.40
The selected candidate will be part of a team of talented engineers working in the Engineer Division performing a variety of duties of a complex nature related to Water and Sanitary Sewer Engineering Projects.
Representatives work duties include but are not limited to:- Review construction plans prepared by engineering consultants for conformity with department and city specifications and policies and coordinate with adjacent developments, roads and utilities.
- Serve as project manager and engineer - in - charge for water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater projects and ensure timely and on-budget design and construction.
- Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.
- Conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and maintain project documentation and records.

- Perform engineering or hydraulic studies
- Review of stormwater pollution plan (SWPPP) documents and construction management.
- Evaluate asset condition and sanitary sewer flow data.
- Coordinate with City departments, outside agencies, and contractors as necessary.
- Provide engineering support for Operations and maintenance of Public Utilities facilities.
- Continually apply independent decision-making abilities.
Work from home is available after 6-months, in accordance with City and DPU Engineering Work from home policies, there is also a flex day option.

Minimum Requirements:MINIMUMS: Engineer I: Requires a Bachelors degree in engineering or closely related field, or an Associate's Degree with six (6) years of progressive experience of engineering level work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Engineer II: Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience.

Preferences:Experience in Project Management in complex sanitary sewer and water distribution projects
Experience with communication and coordination with outside agencies
Experience Managing Capital Improvement projects. (CIP)
Experience with contract administration for construction projects
Experience with project and/or program budget planning
Special Instructions:This position is an Alpha 1 position and you may be required to work when other City offices are modified or essential working conditions.
