Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer Level 5 to lead enterprise network architecture and cybersecurity initiatives for a large federal agency. This role will focus on designing, optimizing, and securing complex network environments across data center and distributed infrastructures, while providing technical leadership and strategic direction for large-scale network modernization efforts.
Responsibilities
- Support several projects at a large federal agency focusing on network engineering and cybersecurity.
- Provide technical analysis in data center and cyber security network planning, engineering, and design.
- Implement techniques and tools for optimal network and cyber security solutions.
- Maintain expertise in network hardware and software interfaces including routers, multiplexers, hubs, bridges, and gateways.
- Coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoot issues with users and network administrators.
- Evaluate networking products, technical solutions, and capacity requirements to meet organizational needs.
- Validate enterprise-level network design, assess vulnerabilities in new equipment, software, and OS releases, and mitigate risks.
- Develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into final products.
- Review and optimize network functionality, performance, and reliability by applying industry best practices and architectures.
- Provide specifications and detailed schematics for unified network architecture of the enterprise.
- Analyze existing device configurations and determine implementation requirements.
- Develop strategies, plans, and processes for nationwide network rollout and upgrades.
- Create Standard Operating Procedures for monitoring and performance measurement systems.
- Upgrade configurations of networking equipment to support new features and functionalities.
- Monitor daily performance issues and develop risk mitigation solutions.
- Configure and maintain VPN, NAC, Cisco ISE, Cisco NEXUS, Cisco ASR, and other network devices.
- Provide guidance to team members and status updates to government customers and management.
- Offer third-level support and troubleshooting, including after-hours and weekend support as needed.
Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or related
- Minimum of 14 years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years in complex network systems engineering
- Cisco CCIE or equivalent certification; possess a second CCIE or CCDE credential
- Extensive knowledge of LAN technologies including Ethernet, ISE, 802.1x, wireless LAN, and physical media
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Experience with data center and cybersecurity network planning and design
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience supporting enterprise network environments
- Knowledge of IP routing protocols, SD-WAN, and cloud networking services
- Experience with Cisco NXOS, Cisco ISE, and other advanced network technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical topics to non-technical audiences
