Network Engineer Level 4

Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer Level 4 to support large-scale network infrastructure initiatives for a federal agency. This role will focus on designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise network solutions across a wide range of remote and campus environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and experience working in complex, high-availability environments.
Responsibilities
- Support several projects for a large federal agency, providing expert network management and technical leadership
- Survey network requirements for remote field offices (approx. 1950 sites) and campus buildings, defining equipment, cables, adapters, and configurations to upgrade infrastructure
- Lead the rollout of WLAN solutions to remote field offices nationwide, ensuring seamless deployment and integration
- Design, improve, operate, and maintain the Network Admission Control (NAC) system and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) access for optimal security and performance
- Analyze existing network configurations and determine implementation needs to enhance network functionality, performance, and reliability
- Coordinate installation schedules with customers and field contractors, preparing and loading network equipment with appropriate software and configuration settings
- Plan and execute site surveys for WLAN and NAC implementations, managing equipment delivery and deployment
- Upgrade existing network equipment configurations to support new features and functions as required
- Manage field installation teams, providing technical guidance and support for site surveys and installations
- Continuously evaluate network systems for opportunities to improve performance and reliability, and assist in the selection of advanced network solutions
- Test LAN/WAN/WLAN/NAC equipment software, including IOS and CatOS
- Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operating procedures
- Monitor and enhance network/system performance and customer service practices
- Manage network installation and upgrade projects, maintaining schedules and providing status reports to government clients and management
- Provide third-level support for troubleshooting network issues, including after-hours and weekend availability when needed
- Stay current with advancements in network and hardware/software technology to ensure best practices
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in networking engineering, especially within large enterprise environments of over 3,000 network nodes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems/Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience (11 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree)
- Certification at Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) level with specialization in Routing & Switching, wireless, security, or data center
- At least 3 years of experience working with AWS network connectivity in large enterprise environments
- Proven ability to adapt to new technologies and learn necessary skills independently
- Mature, self-motivated, adaptable, and team-oriented mindset
- Experience developing detailed plans and documenting use cases and requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience with WAN technologies including MPLS, DMVPN, Frame Relay
- 5 years’ experience with LAN technologies such as Ethernet and wireless LANs, including physical media and equipment
- Experience with Network Admission Control (NAC) and Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) for wireless and wired networks
- Certifications such as CISSP, PCNSE, or ITIL are a plus
