Senior Java Application Developer to support the ongoing operations, maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of a large-scale enterprise application. This role requires a strong technical background in Java-based application development, database design, Agile delivery, and production support.
The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, technical leads, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software enhancements, resolve application issues, improve system performance, and contribute to long-term application sustainability.
What You'll Do Application Development & Maintenance - Design, develop, test, and implement application enhancements and software updates.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and remediate application defects and production issues.
- Perform code modifications to support change requests, operational needs, and system improvements.
- Contribute to application refactoring initiatives to improve maintainability and performance.
- Enhance user experience through user interface improvements and usability enhancements.
- Support data, reporting, and integration-related development efforts.
Solution Design & Documentation - Create and maintain technical and functional documentation for enhancements and system changes.
- Analyze business requirements and document solution options, system dependencies, impacted components, and capability gaps.
- Develop technical specifications, use cases, and design documentation.
- Ensure all deliverables align with established development standards and best practices.
Agile Delivery & Collaboration - Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
- Collaborate closely with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, and technical leadership teams.
- Provide effort estimates, implementation timelines, and technical recommendations.
- Demonstrate incremental solutions and working prototypes to stakeholders.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback into iterative development cycles.
Knowledge Transfer & Operational Excellence - Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to team members to support long-term application ownership.
- Maintain transparency through regular status reporting, sprint updates, and progress tracking.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across development and operational processes.
Responsibilities - Develop and deliver software code changes and associated technical documentation.
- Support application enhancement, maintenance, performance optimization, and operational requests.
- Analyze and resolve defects, incidents, and system issues.
- Work within established Agile development processes and issue-tracking tools.
- Prepare technical specifications covering application modules, interfaces, databases, batch processes, and system integrations.
- Participate in regular stakeholder meetings and technical discussions.
- Deliver production-ready solutions within defined sprint cycles.
Required Qualifications Technical Skills - Java - 10+ years
- J2EE / Java Enterprise Technologies - 10+ years
- IBM DB2 UDB - 10+ years
- Eclipse IDE - 10+ years
Professional Experience - Experience supporting and enhancing large-scale enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of Agile Scrum methodologies and iterative software delivery.
- Experience with requirements analysis, solution design, and technical documentation.
- Experience working with Azure DevOps or similar work management and issue-tracking platforms.
- Proven ability to collaborate with business and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working on public sector or government technology projects within the last five years.
- Experience supporting highly regulated, mission-critical applications.
- Prior experience with enterprise application modernization and operational support environments.
Nice to Have - Application performance tuning and optimization experience.
- Database design and SQL performance analysis expertise.
- UI/UX enhancement experience.
- Experience working in complex, multi-team Agile environments.
