SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST – WORKDAY BENEFITS INTEGRATION SUPPORT
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to support the stabilization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of Workday ERP integrations with external benefits and retirement providers.
The Senior Business Analyst will act as a key liaison between business stakeholders, Workday functional and technical teams, integration developers, benefits/retirement SMEs, vendors, and external provider teams. The role requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to trace issues across system boundaries and determine whether the root cause is related to source data, Workday configuration, benefits or retirement plan configuration, integration logic, data mapping, transaction processing, provider-side processing, timing, or expected system behavior.
This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to investigate complex integration issues, document findings, coordinate resolution across teams, and validate that transactions produce the expected business outcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and support Workday-to-benefits-provider integrations, including inbound and outbound data exchanges.
- Trace employee lifecycle, benefits, payroll, and retirement transactions end-to-end, including:
- New hires and rehires
- Transfers and job changes
- Compensation changes
- Payroll events
- Benefits eligibility and enrollment
- Contribution changes
- Terminations
- Retirement and pension-related transactions
- Investigate integration discrepancies and determine root cause across data, Workday configuration, benefit plan configuration, integration logic, mappings, transformation rules, timing, processing, and provider-side systems.
- Review Workday transactions, integration outputs, inbound/outbound files, reports, logs, error messages, provider responses, and other technical artifacts to identify the point of failure.
- Partner with Benefits, Payroll, Retirement, and HR subject matter experts to understand business rules, expected outcomes, and downstream impacts.
- Collaborate with Workday functional teams, developers, integration teams, vendors, benefit providers, and business stakeholders to validate findings and drive issues through resolution.
- Translate business requirements and reported issues into clear functional and technical investigation requirements.
- Document root-cause analysis, system behavior, data dependencies, business rules, and recommended corrective actions.
- Distinguish true system defects from situations where the system is operating as configured but the resulting behavior or business rule was not previously understood.
- Develop and maintain end-to-end data flow diagrams illustrating how employee, payroll, benefits, and retirement transactions move through Workday and external provider integrations.
- Identify recurring issues, trends, and systemic problems that may require broader configuration, integration, process, or data improvements.
- Support testing and validation of fixes to ensure corrected transactions produce the expected results across Workday and applicable external provider systems.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior Business Analyst or Business Analyst supporting HCM/ERP implementations, production stabilization, system integrations, or complex enterprise applications.
- Strong experience with data analysis, issue investigation, root-cause analysis, and cross-system troubleshooting.
- Ability to trace business transactions and data across multiple applications, integrations, and external organizations.
- Experience reviewing integration data, mappings, transformation rules, logs, reports, files, error messages, or similar technical artifacts.
- Strong understanding of business processes and the ability to translate business questions into detailed functional and technical investigations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple issues simultaneously, prioritize effectively, identify patterns, and drive problems through resolution.
- Strong documentation skills, including the ability to create process documentation, issue analysis, data flows, and solution recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Workday, particularly HCM, Benefits, Payroll, and integrations.
- Experience supporting Workday integrations with benefits providers, retirement systems, pension administrators, insurance carriers, payroll vendors, or other external partners.
- Knowledge of retirement or pension benefit administration, including plan configuration, eligibility rules, contribution processing, and related ERP functionality.
- Familiarity with APIs, web services, middleware, integration platforms, XML, JSON, flat files, data mappings, and data transformation concepts.
- Experience with Workday or another enterprise ERP platform during implementation, post-go-live stabilization, production support, or optimization.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments involving HR, Benefits, Payroll, Retirement, IT, vendors, and external service providers.
