Summary

Senior SQL Server Data Platform Architect / Database Architect

Assess the current SQL Server landscape, including servers, databases, data volumes, integrations, dependencies, security, and overall architecture.
Design and recommend a scalable target-state SQL Server/data platform architecture.
Evaluate options including:

Database consolidation
Centralized reporting databases
Data warehouses/data marts
Replication
ETL/ELT
Linked or integrated data sources
SQL Server clustering/high availability

Develop an approach for moving, synchronizing, or integrating data from existing databases into the target architecture.
Design security, access controls, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, availability, and performance-management strategies.
Support implementation and configuration of the recommended solution.
Develop technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to the client's internal IT team.

Required Experience

Senior-level Microsoft SQL Server architecture and administration experience.
Strong SQL Server database design and performance-tuning expertise.
Experience architecting environments with multiple SQL Server databases/data sources.
Strong understanding of data integration, consolidation, and centralized data architecture patterns.
Experience with SSIS and/or modern Microsoft data integration technologies.
Experience designing reporting/analytics databases, data warehouses, data marts, or other centralized repositories.
Strong T-SQL skills, including complex queries across multiple systems.
Strong understanding of SQL Server security, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability.
Demonstrated experience performing current-state assessments and recommending target-state architecture, not just implementing a predefined design.
Strong client-facing communication and technical documentation skills.

Preferred

SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and/or Failover Cluster Instances.
Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, or other Microsoft cloud data-platform experience.
Experience modernizing legacy or decentralized SQL Server environments.
Higher education experience is a plus, but not required.
