Location: Oxon Hill, Maryland (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking a PowerBuilder Developer to support a Tier 2 application environment for a grants management system. This role focuses on configuration, issue triage, validation, and minor enhancements rather than new feature development. The developer will serve as a key liaison between end-users and Tier 3 engineering, ensuring the stability and proper functioning of transactional workflow applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate within a Tier 2 application support model, handling configuration changes, issue triage, and validation.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex Tier 1 issues, such as login failures, UI behavior, or data display problems.
- Collaborate with Tier 3 application engineers by supporting testing and validation of code changes and providing feedback on system behavior.
- Validate and troubleshoot issues, particularly related to incorrect data flow across integrated systems.
- Utilize strong SQL and database skills to troubleshoot queries and stored procedures, primarily with PostgreSQL and Redshift.
- Diagnose application issues caused by upstream or downstream changes, understanding data dependencies across systems.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation, coding standards, and deployment procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education:A Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience, or 16 years of experience without a degree.
Experience:Experience developing applications in a support-heavy, operations-focused environment. Proven ability to bridge communication between end-users, Tier 1 support, and Tier 3 engineering.
Technical Skills:- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, or Redshift.
- Experience with object-oriented programming concepts.
- Familiarity with source control tools like Git.
- Knowledge of REST/SOAP APIs and application integration.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FEMA systems or other government domains.
- Experience migrating legacy PowerBuilder applications to modern platforms.
- Exposure to Struts, Java, and other web technologies.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment.
Work Environment
The position requires a hybrid work model, with three days onsite in Oxon Hill, MD, and two days remote. The interview process consists of a single virtual panel interview.
