Position Overview
Our hospital client is seeking an experienced Epic Lab / Pharmacy Analyst to support the implementation, optimization, maintenance, and ongoing development of Epic clinical applications supporting laboratory and pharmacy workflows. This position will work closely with clinical, operational, and IT stakeholders to analyze workflows, translate business requirements into Epic solutions, and ensure the applications effectively support safe, efficient patient care.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Epic Lab/Beaker and/or Epic Willow Pharmacy, strong healthcare IT knowledge, and the ability to partner effectively with laboratory, pharmacy, nursing, providers, and other clinical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation, configuration, optimization, and maintenance of Epic laboratory and/or pharmacy applications.
- Analyze current clinical and operational workflows and identify opportunities for process improvement and system optimization.
- Gather, document, and translate business and clinical requirements into functional Epic application solutions.
- Configure Epic application components, workflows, orders, rules, records, and related system functionality as appropriate.
- Collaborate with laboratory, pharmacy, nursing, physician, and other clinical stakeholders to understand operational needs and develop effective solutions.
- Participate in application design, build, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and implementation activities.
- Develop and execute test scripts to validate application functionality, workflows, interfaces, and system changes.
- Investigate application issues, determine root causes, and coordinate appropriate resolution.
- Support system upgrades, enhancements, new functionality, and optimization initiatives.
- Participate in integrated testing and regression testing associated with Epic releases and system changes.
- Create and maintain application documentation, workflow diagrams, specifications, test plans, and training materials.
- Provide support during implementations, upgrades, go-lives, and post-production stabilization.
- Work with technical teams on interfaces and integrations between Epic and ancillary systems, laboratory systems, pharmacy systems, and other third-party applications.
- Participate in change management and communicate application changes effectively to impacted stakeholders.
- Monitor application performance and identify opportunities to improve usability, efficiency, and clinical outcomes.
- Ensure solutions align with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, patient safety standards, and established IT governance.
- Participate in project meetings, status reporting, issue resolution, and cross-functional initiatives.
Epic Application Focus
Depending on the candidate's area of expertise, responsibilities may include:
Epic Laboratory / Beaker
- Laboratory orders and results workflows
- Specimen collection, processing, and tracking

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Clinical Informatics, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience supporting Epic applications in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Hands-on experience with Epic Beaker, Epic Willow, or closely related Epic clinical applications.
- Strong understanding of laboratory and/or pharmacy clinical workflows.
- Experience with Epic application configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Experience gathering requirements and translating clinical/operational needs into technical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clinical users, application teams, technical teams, and leadership.
- Experience participating in Epic implementations, upgrades, optimization projects, or go-lives.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospital IT environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Epic certification in Beaker, Willow, or another relevant Epic application.
- Experience with both Epic Beaker and Epic Willow is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working directly with laboratory or pharmacy departments.
- Experience with Epic integrations, interfaces, HL7, or third-party ancillary systems.
- Experience with Epic clinical decision support, orders, results, medication workflows, or related applications.
- Experience supporting enterprise Epic implementations or optimization initiatives.
- Experience working in an academic medical center or large health system.
- Previous experience serving as an application lead, senior analyst, or implementation lead.

Work Environment
This position will work collaboratively with hospital clinical departments, IT leadership, Epic application teams, vendors, and other stakeholders. The analyst should be comfortable working independently while also contributing to cross-functional project teams and supporting critical implementation and production activities.
