Position Summary
Our hospital client is seeking an experienced Epic Orders Analyst to support the design, build, testing, implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of Epic Orders functionality. This position will work closely with clinical and operational stakeholders to translate workflow requirements into effective Epic solutions that support patient care, safety, and organizational goals.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Epic Orders, order sets, preference lists, SmartSets, clinical decision support, and related Epic workflows, along with a strong understanding of hospital clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, build, test, implement, and maintain Epic Orders functionality.
- Configure and optimize orders, order sets, SmartSets, preference lists, and related clinical workflows.
- Partner with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary departments, and other clinical stakeholders to gather requirements and identify workflow improvements.
- Translate clinical and operational requirements into Epic system specifications and configuration.
- Participate in workflow analysis, solution design, integrated testing, user acceptance testing, and production implementation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Epic Orders issues and provide ongoing application support.
- Evaluate existing workflows and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.
- Collaborate with other Epic application teams to ensure appropriate integration and functionality across the Epic environment.
- Participate in system upgrades, enhancements, new functionality, and optimization initiatives.
- Develop and maintain application documentation, build specifications, test scripts, and workflow documentation.
- Support change management, training, go-live activities, and post-production stabilization as needed.
- Monitor system performance and user feedback and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Follow hospital IT policies, clinical standards, security requirements, and change-control procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, Nursing, or a related field; equivalent healthcare IT experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of Epic application experience, preferably with significant experience supporting Epic Orders.
- Hands-on experience with Epic Orders, order sets, SmartSets, preference lists, and clinical workflows.
- Experience working within a hospital or health system environment.
- Strong understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare information systems.
- Experience gathering requirements and translating business/clinical needs into technical solutions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clinicians, physicians, IT teams, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Experience with testing, implementation, upgrades, and application support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Epic certification in Orders or a closely related Epic application.
- Experience with Epic Clinical Orders, Inpatient Orders, Ambulatory Orders, or specialty-specific ordering workflows.
- Experience supporting Epic implementations, upgrades, optimization, or major clinical transformation initiatives.
- Experience developing and maintaining complex order sets and clinical decision-support workflows.
- Experience with integrated testing and troubleshooting across multiple Epic applications.
- Healthcare IT experience within an academic medical center, large hospital, or multi-facility health system.
- Epic experience with related applications such as Willow, ClinDoc, Ambulatory, Beacon, OpTime, ASAP, or Cadence is a plus.
- Strong understanding of clinical documentation, medication, laboratory, radiology, and ancillary ordering workflows.
Epic Certification
Epic certification is strongly preferred and may be required based on the specific application assignment.
Candidates should clearly identify their current Epic certifications and applicable Epic implementation, optimization, and production-support experience.
