Practice Group: Computer Science / Scientific Infrastructure & Machine Learning

About the Role

Innovation in quantitative science, drug discovery, and high-performance computing requires more than data—it demands world-class infrastructure, sophisticated modeling, and flawless execution. StaffRight Associates is recruiting for an elite talent for a premier global quantitative research and technology firm in New York City.

We are seeking an exceptional Research Software Developer to join a highly collaborative, intellectually rigorous team where computational excellence is the standard. Software developers at all levels of experience—including entry-level—will develop, deploy, and support software tools and systems for scientific modeling, simulation, and analysis. This role is directly involved in building infrastructure for distributed/parallel training, leveraging LLMs, and applying advanced machine learning models to drive cutting-edge drug discovery efforts.

This is a high-impact position designed for a driven problem-solver who thrives at the intersection of complex architecture, advanced algorithms, and real-world scientific execution, working alongside a world-class team of chemists, biologists, machine learning engineers, and computer scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect & Build: Design, optimize, and maintain critical tools and infrastructure driving scientific data pipelines, LLM model training and deployment, and large-scale distributed systems.

  • Data & Research Execution: Translate complex datasets, chemical/ML data, and abstract technical challenges into clear, scalable, high-performance workflows and cheminformatics tools.

  • Systemic Optimization: Identify technical friction points, eliminate bottlenecks, install/troubleshoot software, and enhance operational velocity across GPU clusters and high-concurrency computing environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key technical interface, working directly with quantitative researchers, machine learning engineers, biologists, and computational chemists to improve end-user computing environments.

What You Bring

  • Academic Pedigree: Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computational Chemistry, or a related STEM discipline.

  • Technical Mastery: Strong command of Core Technical Concepts and tools, specifically:

    • Languages: Python, C++, Linux/UNIX Tools

    • ML/AI Frameworks: PyTorch, MLflow, vLLM, SGLang, Generative & Agentic AI

    • Infrastructure: GPU Clusters, Distributed/Parallel Training, Data Management Pipelines

  • Analytical Precision: Proven track record in scripting and automating scientific workflows, managing complex data, or solving multi-faceted problems in high-performance computing.

  • Agile Mindset: Intellectual curiosity, versatility, and a track record of achievement, balancing rigorous engineering standards with fast-paced execution.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $250,000 – $600,000 (Determined based on prior experience and educational background)

  • Additional Benefits: Variable compensation (sign-on and year-end bonuses), generous full benefit package, relocation assistance, and immigration support.

  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid model (In-office Tuesday–Thursday; optional remote Monday and Friday).
