Pay Range: $90-100/hr.
Contract thru end of 2026 (extension into 2027 highly likely based on project needs)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Backup and Recovery Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support enterprise backup, restore, disaster recovery, and cyber recovery capabilities. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing backup and recovery services across enterprise platforms, with a focus on Cohesity for immutable backups and Oracle ZDLRA for database backups. The ideal candidate will help ensure a reliable strategy for recovering systems and data securely, quickly, and at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical SME for enterprise backup, restore, disaster recovery, and cyber recovery capabilities.
- Support and optimize backup and recovery solutions using Cohesity and Oracle ZDLRA.
- Partner with database, compute, storage, security, and application teams to create integrated protection and recovery strategies.
- Conduct and support backup validation, restore testing, disaster recovery exercises, and ransomware recovery simulations.
- Define procedures for secure data and file movement into the recovery environment, including validation through hashing or signing.
- Support patching, updating, and ongoing operability of systems within the isolated recovery zone.
- Create and maintain detailed recovery runbooks, architecture documentation, playbooks, and operational standards.
- Provide technical leadership and escalation support during critical incidents and recovery events.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: Significant experience in enterprise backup, recovery engineering, storage/data protection, or infrastructure resiliency roles.
Technical Skills:- Strong hands-on expertise with Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) and Cohesity backup solutions.
- Deep understanding of backup architecture, recovery design, and disaster recovery principles (RPO/RTO).
- Experience with backup and recovery for databases, virtual machines, file systems, and application workloads.
- Proficiency in scripting or automation using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Knowledge of data integrity validation, secure file movement, Windows/Linux administration, and recovery automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle database backup and recovery strategies in enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with integrated infrastructure across compute, storage, virtualization, and database platforms.
- Experience supporting cyber vault, isolated recovery environment, or clean-room recovery designs.
- Experience in large-scale, regulated, or highly available enterprise environments.
- Relevant certifications in Oracle, Cohesity, storage, or data protection technologies.
